WACO, Texas – No. 23 Washington women's tennis battled to a 4-1 victory over Rice at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The Huskies move to 4-0 on the season.
Reece Carter and Jermine Sherif made easy work in doubles, securing the first court win 6-1. Erika Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit secured the doubles point with their first ranked win of the dual season with a 6-3 victory over the 28th-ranked pair.
Syrtveit battled in singles but grinded out a 7-6(7) victory in the first set and followed it up with a 6-4 win to secure the second point for the Dawgs. Sherif followed closely behind with a three-set win on Court No. 4, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. No. 53 Carter clinched the match with a straight set victory, 6-4, 7-6(2).
Rice's point came on Court No. 3 with Uma Bakaityte defeating Alexia Jacobs, 6-2, 6-1.
Washington was up a set on Courts No. 1 (No. 64 Matsuda) and No. 5 (No. 115 Marie Weissheim) before the match came to an end.
