Huskies Remain In Third After 36 Holes
March 02, 2026 | Men's Golf
LAS VEGAS – On a gusty day at Southern Highlands Golf Club, Washington men's golf battled to post a 3-over (291) to sit at 2-under (574) overall to remain in third place.
Washington is just one of three teams under par alongside No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 Auburn.
"Tough day conditions wise," head coach Alan Murray said. "Overall, I think we showed signs again today that we are becoming a pretty good team. The guys play with a really good spirit, and we have earned our place in the final group. We are surrounded by really good teams and we know we have to play well tomorrow so see if we can climb the leaderboard."
Junior Finn Koelle jumped up 23 spots on the leaderboard with a round of 68 (-4). Koelle birdied four of his final six holes to move into a tie for ninth at 3-under (141). The 68 matches his season-low round which was at the Sahalee Players Championship and was tied for the second-best round of the day.
"Finn played a truly superb round, 68 was really impressive," Murray said.
Grady Millar had an up-and-down round but was able to birdie holes late to get it back to even par. Millar is 2-under (142) for the tournament and in a tie for 13th.
"Grady had it going early and he was similar to all of our guys in that leaked a little oil coming in," Murray added.
Freshman Emil Herstad went even par for the first nine holes but struggled coming in to finish at 4-over (74). He is 2-over overall and inside the Top 30.
Jack Murphy closed out his round with five straight pars to be 3-over for the round and 7-over (151) for the tournament. Jacob Goode rounded out the starting five with a 6-over (78) and is tied for 43rd.
"I think everyone has showed their game is trending in the right direction and we are really looking forward to playing with the number 1 and 2 ranked teams in country tomorrow," Murray concluded.
The Huskies will be paired with Virginia and Auburn in the final round beginning at 10:40 a.m. PT off hole No. 1.
