NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Washington men's golf is in a tie for second following the first round of the Big Ten Championships at Pumpkin Ridge – Witch Hallow.
The Dawgs shot a 1-over (281) to be in a tie with UCLA while Illinois has the lead at 1-under (279). Four Huskies are in the Top 26.
"Solid days work," head coach Alan Murray said. "We leaked a little oil coming in but we played some really good golf. Excellent round of 68 by Emil. Grady was really solid with even par. Finn had it going for a while and Jake played some good stuff also."
Freshman Emil Herstad is in a tie for fifth has he led the Husky charge with a 2-under (68) – one shot off the lead. It was his third round of the season in the 60s and his sixth under par. Herstad had just one dropped shot on the round, coming at his third hole of the day.
Grady Millar was 2-under through 16 holes, but back-to-back bogeys to close it out put him at even par (70). He is tied for 11th.
Finn Koelle had a good round going until a double bogey at the par-3 fifth set him back. He finished the round at 1-over (71) to be in a tie for 16th.
Jake Foley went 2-over (72) on the round to place him in a tie for 25th.

"You always want to get everything you can out of a round," Murray concluded. "Overall, it was a really solid day and we are right in this tournament."
