Washington Drops Opening Game In Columbus
May 01, 2026 | Softball
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 25 softball team (34-16, 15-7 Big Ten) dropped the opening game at Ohio State on Friday night, almost completing a comeback but ultimately falling 4-5 at Buckeye Field.
Both teams went scoreless the first two innings to open up Friday's game, before Ohio State got rolling in the third. The Buckeyes walked in two runs, then recorded an RBI double and an RBI single in the bottom of the third to quickly take a 5-0 lead.
The slugging pair of Giselle Alvarez and Alexis DeBoer provided some big highlights for the Huskies, with Alvarez helping Washington get on the board via a two-run bomb in the fifth, her 15th of the season.
DeBoer helped cut the Buckeye lead down even more with a two-run homer of her own in the seventh, the 17th of the season for the sophomore.
Rylee Rehbein had a strong showing in the circle for Washington, recording a season-high five strikeouts with one walk and one hit in 3.2 innings.
Marley Teasley also had a strong offensive showing, going 2-for-3 on the day with a pair of singles and a run.
Game two of the series will be Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m. PT, available on Big Ten Plus.
