SEATTLE – Reece Carter, Erika Matsuda, Jermine Sherif and Marie Weissheim from Washington women's tennis have earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors.
The award is one of the highest honors that combines athletic and academic contributions. To be named to the team, members must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA and have significant on-court contributions.
Carter and Matsuda are being honored on the team for a second season in a row. Both have also been selected to move on to academic all-america consideration.
This dual season, Carter went 34-7 in singles and doubles spending time at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in singles and No. 3 in doubles alongside Sherif. Carter earned her fourth first team all-conference nod. In the fall, she reached the Round of 32 in the NCAA Singles Championship. Carter is currently ranked No. 53 in the ITA Singles ranking. Carter is working towards her degree in real estate that she will graduate with in June.
Matsuda spent most of the season at the No. 1 singles spot where she posted an 8-4 record and was 15-8 in doubles alongside partners Carina Syrtveit and Karolina Kozakova. Matsuda became the 11th Husky to participate in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in the same season on her way to second team All-Big Ten honors. Matsuda is ranked No. 89 in singles and No. 87 in doubles in the latest ITA rankings. In June, Matsuda will graduate with her degree in food systems, nutrition and health.
In her first season on Montlake, Sherif posted an 18-4 record in singles – spending time at the No. 4 and No. 5 spot. She joined Carter at the No. 3 doubles spot where they went 13-5 together. She ranked as high as No. 124 in singles back in February. Sherif is currently a pre-major but will work on earning her degree in geography: data science.
Weissheim held a 32-6 overall record that included a 16-2 mark in doubles alongside Alexia Jacobs. The duo had two ranked wins together including a victory over the No. 25 doubles pair in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Virginia. Weissheim is working on her degree in psychology.
