
Huskies Fall In NCAA Tournament Second Round

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Washington women's tennis' season came to a close in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Dawgs fell to 7-seed Virginia, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Boar's Head Resort.
Alexia Jacobs and Marie Weissheim had their biggest ranked win of the season, defeating the No. 25 doubles pair, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot. It is their second ranked win of the dual season. Virginia came back and won the doubles matches on at the No. 1 and 3 spots to secure the doubles point.
The Dawgs battled in singles, but Virginia won on Courts 4, 5 and 6 to secure the match victory.
Reece Carter was up on Court 1 following a first set win, 6-2. Erika Matsuda was also up in her match against the 28th-ranked player following a 6-2 set one victory. Additionally, Jacobs was in a battle on Court 3, winning the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6(7).
This season was full of historic moments for the program including Robin Stephenson becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history, the best start in program history (12-0) and the first undefeated season at home since 2003. Washington also had its first back-to-back 20 win season since 1980 and 1981 and the first consecutive appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament since 2010 and 2011.
