High School Awards: Captain of Green Lake crew as a senior.
Major at UW: Microbiology/zoology
Husky Rowing Experience
1997 (Freshman): Stroked novice eight to the Pac-10 title. . . rowed in the three seat in the varsity four boat that finished second behind Brown in grand final the NCAA Championships, helping Washington win the NCAA title. 1998 (Sophomore): Stroked the JV boat that posted an undefeated season, with victories on Opening Day and a second straight Pac-10 title.1999 (Junior): Rowed in the six seat on the JV ... boat won a third straight Pac-10 title and eighth straight Crew Classic crown ... finished fourth in the JV grand final at NCAAs as UW finished third in the team standings.
Personal: Daughter of Carol Nygren and Frank Birkholz ... sister is Liana.
I chose Washington because: It was an excellent school, close to home, with mountains nearby and great rowing.
The best thing about Seattle is: The mountains and the Sound on sunny days.
The best thing about UW is: Rowing
Favorite class: Art History and Zoology
My best race was: Against Wisconsin in 1998, we came from behind in a sprint.
After I graduate I plan to: Go to graduate school.
If I could tell my incoming teammates one thing, it would be: Love every moment of it because it passes by so quickly.
