Lincecum Fans 14 As Huskies Beat BYU, 10-1

SEATTLE - Washington pitcher Tim Lincecum struck out 14 and allowed only one hit over six innings to run his scoreless innings streak to 34 and two-thirds innings as the Huskies beat BYU, 10-1, Thursday night in a rainy, non-conference game at Husky Ballpark.
Lincecum, a junior from Renton's Liberty High, improved his record to 8-2 with the win. The only hit he allowed was a one-out double in the fourth by BYU shortstop Marco Villezcas and he walked only one.
Lincecum, who leads the nation with 123 strikeouts, fanned the side in order in the first, second and sixth innings. Over his last 48 innings, he's allowed only 13 hits and one earned run.
The UW (23-13), who put runners at first and third with no outs in the first but didn't score, loaded the bases with no outs in the third. After a ground ball to first resulted in the lead runner being cut down at the plate, another fielder's choice groundout from Curt Rindal sent home Matt Hague from third to give the UW a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, the Huskies broke the game open with six runs. Ryan Anderson chopped a single to left to lead off and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, UW left fielder Zach Clem belted a double off the center field wall to drive in two more. After Matt Lane was hit by a pitch, Curt Rindal doubled to left-center to send home two more, and Matt Stevens' single plated Rindal, giving the Huskies a 7-0 lead.
In the fifth, the Huskies got an RBI single from Hague and a run-scoring double from Clem to increase the lead to 9-0.
BYU (14-19) scored its first run in the top of the seventh when first baseman Jeff Hiestand belted a one-out solo homer off of Husky reliever Nick Haughian. Husky freshman Danny Cox answered in the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot to right, his first homer as a Husky.
Cougars starter Mitch Woolf, making his first start of the season, took the loss to fall to 0-1. He allowed five runs on three hits over three and two-thirds innings.
Washington got two doubles and three RBI each from Clem and Rindal. Hague was 1- for-1 with three walks and three stolen bases. Husky reliever Richie Lentz, in his second inning of work since returning from elbow surgery, struck out the side in order in the eighth. UW pitchers combined for 20 strikeouts.
