BELLEVUE, Wash. - Three Husky pitchers combined to throw a three-hit shutout as Washington (10-20) ended a two-game losing skid to Seattle University (12-15) with an 11-0 win at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue on Tuesday night.
Troy Scott and Eric Peterson led the Husky hit parade with three knocks each. Scott had a triple and two RBI. Washington's 11 runs were the second most this season.
Senior Geoff Brown (1-2) pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn his first win of the season.
Six of Washington's 11 runs were unearned as Seattle U committed six errors on the night.
The Huskies opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the second inning off Seattle U starter Arlo Evasick (0-3). Scott led off with a single and would score all the way from first when Peterson followed with a single to right that got past Seattle U right fielder Doug Kincaid. Peterson was sacrificed to third and scored on a RBI groundout by Chase Anselment.
Washington added a pair of runs in the fifth inning when Scott hit an infield single to short, scoring Brian Wolfe from third. Joe Meggs also came in to score from second on an errant throw by shortstop Trent Oleszczuk.
The Dawgs plated two more unearned runs without the luxury of hit in the sixth inning. Caleb Brown led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second and advanced to third when Ryan Wiggins reached first on a fielding error by shortstop Nick Latta. UW shortstop Ty Afenir followed with a bunt back to pitcher Conor Spink, who threw the ball down the right field line to allow Brown to score and Wiggins to advance to third. Wiggins came in to score when pinch-hitter Will Sparks grounded out to first.
Washington put the game away with five more runs in the ninth, highlighted by a 2-RBI triple to deep center by Scott.
Husky starter Jeff Brigham pitched excellent and dropped his ERA to 3.44, but did not earn the decision. He threw 4 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits, striking out two and walking one batter. Brigham's lone walk was to leadoff batter Oleszczuk in the first inning before he went on to retire the next 11 batters until allowing a harmless two-out single to Josh Kalalau in the fourth inning.
The Huskies return to action on Friday when they host their first Pac-10 homestand of the season against No. 16/22 California in a three-game series at Husky Ballpark.
