SEATTLE - No. 8 Arizona State moved within one game of first-place Oregon State in the Pac-10 standings as starter Kramer Champlin threw a complete-game shutout to beat Washington, 12-0, Saturday at Husky Ballpark.
Champlin improved to 8-3 with the victory, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Husky freshman starter Austin Voth (2-5) took the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits over four and two-thirds innings.
As they did in Friday night's game, the Sun Devils (38-13 overall, 16-7 in the Pac-10) got started in the third inning. Xorge Carrillo doubled down the left-field line and Andrew Aplin singled to begin the inning. A single from Johnny Reuttiger brought in one run and, after an out, Riccio Torrez laced a single that scored two more, giving Arizona State a 3-0 advantage.
In the fifth, ASU added a run as three walks and a passed ball allowed Andrew Aplin to cross, stretching the lead to 4-0. In the sixth, Zach Wilson doubled and scored on a Matt Newman single. Carrillo then knocked his second double and came in to score on an error, making it 6-0.
In the eighth, ASU loaded the bases one two singles and, after the inning was kept alive and the bases were loaded on catcher's interference, Reuttiger tripled to center, clearing the bases to stretch the lead to 9-0. Reuttiger finished 2-for-5 with four runs batted in.
ASU's Abe Ruiz belted a two-run, pinch-hit homer in the ninth and another came in on an error to account for the final tally.
The Huskies (15-34, 5-18 in the Pac-10) got two hits from junior catcher B.K. Santy to lead the offense.
Washington closes out its 2011 home schedule Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game vs. ASU.
