SEATTLE - Freshman Jaclyn Softli (Sammamish, Wash.) scored her first career goal as a Husky giving UW a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute over No. 21 Cal. The Golden Bears kept fighting and tied the game in the 73rd minute and after 110 minutes the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
UW is now 4-4-3 overall and 0-1-1 in Pac-12 play while Cal is 8-2-1 and 1-0-1 in the conference.
Both teams had multiple opportunities to score more but great goalkeeping on both ends made the game low-scoring.
With 21 minutes left in the first half, Cal's Betsy Hassett took a great shot from the right side but UW's Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann (Lakewood, Wash.) had a great save diving to her right. LaFontaine-Kussmann made three saves in the game.
Kelli Stewart (Mukilteo, Wash.) took the best shot of the first half for UW but it was saved over the post by Emily Kruger. Kruger made five saves of her own for the Bears.
UW came out blazing in the second half, as sophomore Allie Beahan (Sammamish, Wash.) took a great shot about 25 yards out from right side and it hit the top of the crossbar and went out.
Stewart then connected with Softli for the first goal on a nice cross to the middle.
Cal's goal came from Rachel Mercik after Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick hit the crossbar and Mercik was there to tap it in.
UW had 10 shots and Cal took 15 in the game. Senior Sarah Martinez (Des Moines, Wash.) led the Huskies with three shots.
UW hosts No. 1 Stanford on Sunday at noon.
