ST. LOUIS – The No. 20 Washington women's soccer team erased a two-goal second half deficit but ultimately fell 3-2 in extra time to No. 5 Michigan State in Thursday's Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinal at Energizer Park.

Maylen Montoya and Andrea Leyva each scored to draw the Huskies level, the third goal of the season for both players.

The Spartans took the lead inside of 13 minutes as Faith George cut inside onto her left foot, tucking her shot inside the near corner.

Washington weathered several dangerous attacks from the Spartans to keep the deficit at a single goal into the halftime break, but Bella Najera doubled the MSU lead shortly after the restart.

With their backs against the wall, the Dawgs responded, cutting the margin to one off a set piece in the 59^th minute.

Set just outside the left corner of the 18-yard box, Samiah Shell lofted a curling cross into an unmarked Montoya, who buried UW's first shot of the match to give the Huskies life.

Just minutes after Lucy Newlin's potential match leveler clanged off the cross bar off a corner kick, Leyva finished off a beautiful connection of passes from UW and bagged her third goal in two matches, resetting the scoreline at two goals apiece.

The third year midfielder used a deft outside of the foot finish to bulge the left side of net after Newlin one-touched Montoya's delivery from the left flank into the Las Vegas native's path.

With the match extending into extra time, Tanner Ijams made a point-blank save but Najera was first to the rebound, scoring the golden goal in the 96^th minute to send the Spartans to the semifinals.

Washington turns its attention to the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, November 16, on NCAA.com where the Huskies await their postseason destination.
