"It feels good to get my first goal," said Pacheco after the game. "I've been waiting for a while now. I've hit the post a couple of times so I was due for one, I was pretty excited. We are great on set pieces, have been all year. The ball came out to me and I've been hitting good with my left foot, the goal looked open so I shot it."
The Huskies remain atop the Pac-12 standings with the win at 3-0-1 and 8-3-2 overall. Cal falls to 6-5-1 and 1-3-0.
Pacheco took a great shot with his left foot into the upper right corner of the net on an assist from senior Abdul Aman (Seattle, Wash.).
Washington had 16 total shots in the game, three on goal while Cal fired eight shots, four on goal. Cal won the battle of the corner kicks, 6-5.
Senior Nate Sackeyfio (Seattle, Wash.) hit the left post on a great shot halfway through the first half. Pacheco took a shot off the rebound but a Cal defender cleared it off the line.
Just over 10 minutes into the second half, freshman James Moberg (Windsor, Calif.) nearly scored as well, as Kevin Peach, the Cal keeper, had to reach for the save behind his legs.
With 21 minutes left in regulation, Stefano Bonomo received his second yellow card of the game which forced Cal to play with 10 players the rest of the game.
In goal for the Huskies, junior Spencer Richey (Seattle, Wash.) made four saves and picked up his sixth shutout of the season.
"It was a huge win," said head coach Jamie Clark. "When you are at home you got to get wins. That's why we pushed up front at the end. We find a way to win games right now. We got the buy-in of the team to do all the little things, all of the hard work that over the course of 90 or 110 minutes you get five extra chances and we score one of them."
The men's team has another huge game on Sunday at noon vs. Stanford. The game will air live on the Pac-12 Networks.
