
Meet The New UW Baseball Signees: Brandon Choate

SEATTLE - Over the coming weeks, we'll be introducing Husky Baseball fans to the class of 2013 - those high-school seniors who signed National Letters of Intent to enroll at the UW next fall and play on the 2014 Husky team.
The second of our 10 signees is Brandon Choate, a pitcher from Mountlake Terrace (Wash.) High School and Tacoma CC. The 6-foot-5 right-hander could end up as a starter or in the bullpen at the UW. Here's a look at Brandon:
UW Baseball: What is your pre-game superstition if you have any?
Choate: Never step on the line. I always put on my right shoe before my left shoe for good luck.
UW Baseball: What is your favorite pre-game meal?
Choate: Peanut butter and jelly.
UW Baseball: Favorite pre-game music?
Choate: Hip-hop/rap.
UW Baseball: What is your guilty pleasure TV show?
Choate: SpongeBob Squarepants and How I Met Your Mother.
UW Baseball: If you weren't playing baseball you would ...
Choate: Be pursing a career in law enforcement or joining the Coast Guard.
UW Baseball: What is your favorite quote or saying?
Choate: "I hated every minute of training, but I said, don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion." -Muhammad Ali
UW Baseball: Who are you most looking forward to playing with at the UW?
Choate: I couldn't pick one person. I am excited to be a part of this team and can't wait to get to know the rest of the guys.
UW Baseball: If you could trade places with one person in professional sports for a day who would it be and why?
Choate: Justin Verlander. He's an unbelievable athlete and I love watching him play.
UW Baseball: Do you play any other sports in HS? If so, what?
Choate: I played recreational basketball, but nothing other than baseball for my school.
UW Baseball: Have you always been a pitcher?
Choate: I played all of the positions when I was younger, but once high school started I became a pitcher only.
UW Baseball: When did you start thinking about playing in college?
Choate: I have always dreamed of playing college baseball as a kid.
UW Baseball: What are your personal goals this season and in your career at UW?
Choate: I want to establish my role as a starter for this team and help win a Pac-12 championship and help get the team to Omaha.
UW Baseball: Why UW Baseball?
Choate: I have always been a huge Husky fan and UW is my local college so when they offered me, it was a no-brainer.
UW Baseball: What is your best memory of Baseball at any level?
Choate: My junior year my High School team made it to state. Getting to play in a playoff atmosphere was the greatest feeing.
UW Baseball: What are some of the strengths of your game that you will bring to the UW?
Choate: I believe I have a great work ethic and I will help my teammates be the best they can be.
UW Baseball: Have you thought much about what you want to major in?
Choate: I want to major in sociology.
UW Baseball: Away from the field and the classroom, what are some of your hobbies, or what do you like to watch?
Choate: I like to play Call of Duty with my friends and I go to the gym a lot. I also just like to get outdoors and play random pickup games of different sports with my friends.
