STANFORD, Calif. - Michael Camporeale drove in four, Jayce Ray and Braden Bishop had three hits each and Austin Voth pitched eight solid innings as the Washington baseball team cruised to an 11-3 win over Stanford Saturday at Sunken Diamond.
Voth (4-4) went eight innings for the win. He gave up two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out nine. Stanford starter Logan James (1-3) took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits in three and one-third innings.
Camporeale finished 2-for-6 with four runs batted in and a pair of doubles. Bishop, a freshman center fielder, was 3-for-5 with four runs scored while Ray went 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI and a pair of walks.
Washington (9-23 overall, 3-8 in the Pac-12) jumped out to a lead with a two-run first inning. Ray singled to lead off the game and, after a couple of outs, Ryan Wiggins joined him on the basepaths with a walk. Camporeale followed by short-hopping the fence down the left-field line for a two-out, two-run double.
But, it didn't take long for the Cardinal (18-11 overall, 6-5 Pac-12) to draw even. With two out in the bottom of the first and Justin Ringo aboard on a leadoff single, Stanford first baseman Brian Ragira belted his third homer of the season over the fence in left to tie the score at 2-2.
The tie was short-lived though. In the top of the second, Huskies Andrew Ely and Robert Pehl came up with back-to-back, two-out singles, each driving in a run to give the Huskies a 4-2 lead.
In the fourth, Bishop walked, took second on a bunt and then scored thanks to a pair of wild pitches. Ray then walked and scored thanks to back-to-back fielding errors by Cardinal infielders on grounders from Ely and Pehl, stretching the UW lead to 6-2.
In the seventh, Bishop doubled and, after taking third on another wild pitch, scored on an Afenir single, making it 7-2. In the eighth, Camporeale knocked his second two-run double of the game, upping the lead to 9-2.
In the ninth, the UW added two more as Bishop singled, Afenir was hit by a pitch and Ray singled to drive them both in. In the bottom of the ninth, Stanford's Austin Wilson hit a two-out solo homer.
The Huskies and Cardinal close out the series with a 1:00 p.m. game Sunday. Fans can watch live video on the Pac-12 website.
