In her first year as the volunteer coach at Washington is former Husky forward Erin Otagaki.
She has been attending graduate school and coaching youth soccer since completing her collegiate playing career in 2001.
"Erin is a great addition to our staff," Lesle Gallimore exclaimed. "She is one of the most skilled, innovative players that we ever had at Washington and she should be able to help our players in those aspects.
"As a player she had so much heart and desire to win games and she continues to bring that as a coach. She is a tremendous person to be around on and off the field."
Otagaki graduated from Washington in 2001 with a degree in English. She is currently attending graduate school at UW in pursuit of a master's of education. Otagaki plans to pursue the coaching profession.
A graduate of Punahou High School in Honolulu, Otagaki twice helped her prep squad place third at the Hawai'i state championships (1994, 1997). She participated in the Olympic Development Program regional pool from 1995-96.
She lettered three seasons, helping the Huskies to NCAA Tournament berths in 1998, 2000 and 2001. Otagaki started a majority of games during the 2000 season when the Huskies won their only Pacific-10 Conference championship. UW advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and registered a school-record 18 wins. Otagaki netted six goals during her career, including two game-winners he senior season.
The nifty forward played on the Washington State Select Team during the summers of 2000 and 2001 and performed with the Seattle Sounders Select Team in 2000.
A successful mentor to youth, Otagaki served in 2002 as head coach of the Lake Washington Crossfire at the U-12 level. In 2003, she worked in an assistant coaching capacity with the U-16 Washington state ODP team.
