Meet The Husky Newcomers: Madi Schreyer
December 14, 2015 | Softball
The Washington softball program welcomed a talented class of seven freshmen and a sophomore transfer in 2015-16. Learn more about the Husky newcomers, on and off the field, as a newcomer will be introduced each week on GoHuskies.com leading up to the 2016 season.
The final newcomer to be introduced is sophomore transfer, Madi Schreyer, who returns home after spending her first two seasons at Stanford. In her freshman campaign, Schreyer received All Pac-12 honorable mention honors for her efforts in the circle, tossing a staff-high 242.1 innings with a 3.70 ERA and 22-14 record. Before she was lost for the year with an injury, Schreyer got off to a promising start to her sophomore season, posting a 2.09 ERA in 50.1 innings with 38 strikeouts.

What is your favorite part about being a Husky?
My favorite part about being a Husky is being surrounded by amazing people with similar goals and being able to see my family more often.
What is one random fact that people wouldn't know about you?
I love to surf!
What is the best part about playing for Coach Tarr?
Coach Tarr is one of the greatest coaches I've had the opportunity to play under. She motivates, inspires and pushes each of her players to become the very best softball players, students and people that they can possibly become. Her positivity and passion is contagious.
What is your most embarrassing softball moment?
One game when I was 12 or 13, I was pitching and accidently released the ball behind me on my wind-up… whoops!
Why did you choose the number you wear?
I chose to wear #44 to honor and remember my friend from high school, Parker Moore, who passed away in November 2014. Parker wore #44 on the high school football team before graduating on to Linfield College to play football there. He represented everything a student-athlete, friend and person could've strived to be, and I am so blessed to be able to honor him this through wearing his number.

In Madi's own words…
I like to think that I'm pretty down to earth. Simple things bring me happiness. I love my family more than anything and I wouldn't be where I am today without their love and their support. We have two big, fluffy huskies at home, Meeko and Moose, and I love going home because they get so excited to see me. I could not be prouder of my brother, Quinn, and my sister, Zoe. One of my favorite things in the world to do is watch Q dominate in his football games. I love doing art and starting painting projects with Zoe. Family vacations will always be the best kind of vacations to me. I love to travel, and I am planning on going backpacking across Europe sometime after I graduate. I'm obsessed with writing short stories and poems, and I probably have more half-full journals than full ones. I could spend a whole afternoon painting and listening to vinyls. I have a strange obsession with candles and books. The ocean is probably my favorite place to be and I've only been surfing a couple times, but I fell in love with it the first time I went out with my friends. I really like extremes… for example, winter and summer are my favorite seasons. Also, saying that I love coffee is a serious understatement. I've had to deal with some adversity throughout the past couple years and a lot of it fits in the category of the most difficult things I've had to face in my life so far, but I wouldn't ever trade a situation to make it easier on myself because those tough times forced me to learn and grow and I've definitely become stronger and more secure in myself as a result. I'm more than proud and honored to be a part of this Husky family!
