Gold Squad Claims Purple & Gold World Series With 11-2 Romp

SEATTLE Β β Β The Gold squad used a five-run first inning and four-run second to propel themselves to a runaway 11-2 victory over Purple in game two of the annual Purple and Gold World Series Thursday at Husky Ballpark. Gold also won the first game of the series, 6-3, on Tuesday.

Willie MacIver, Jack Johnson and Jonathan Schiffer had three hits apiece to pace the Gold's 17-hit attack.

The offensive outpouring helped propel Stevie Emanuels to a victory on the mound. The freshman allowed five hits and two runs over four innings.

MacIver got the offense going for the Gold squad in the first with a three-run homer to give the visiting team a 3-0 lead before an out was even recorded. They would tack on a run on a RBI double by freshman Kaiser Weiss and RBI single from freshman Noah Hsue.

Sophomore Christian Jones kept the good times rolling for the Gold squad with a three-run homer and Johnson followed Jones with a solo shot to make the score 9-1.

Weiss would add on a two run single in the fifth inning to give him three RBI on the day.

The Purple squad had six hits and got on the board in the first and second innings.

Braiden Ward walked in the first, stole second and eventually scored on a two-out double by Mason Cerrillo. Ward drove home the other run for Purple with a RBI single, scoring Nick Roberts from third with two outs in the second.

Gold earns the crown as Fall Ball champions of the Purple and Gold World Series, but the two team will play again tomorrow at 4:20 p.m.
