Huskies Fall 2-0 to Seattle U

SEATTLE --- Despite out-shooting Seattle U and controlling play for much of the first half, Washington suffered its second-straight defeat, losing 2-0 to its crosstown rival on Sunday night in front of a packed house of 2,994 fans at Husky Soccer Stadium.
The Huskies (5-3-0) held a 19-10 edge in shots in the match including dominating the first half with a 10-3 edge, but struggled to find the back of the net for the second-straight match.
Washington got a number of great chances through the first 45 minutes of the contest, starting with a chance in the eighth minute. Blake Bodily gathered a loose ball and cracked a shot from the top of the box. The shot beat the Seattle U netminder but the ball rattled off the far post and was cleared.
The best chance for the Huskies came in the 30th minute as Washington got three point-blank chances in succession. After a miscue on the Seattle U backline, Kyle Coffee gathered the loose ball and blasted a shot which was blocked by a defender. The ball rolled back to Corban Anderson at the top of the box, who sent a full volley toward the open goal only to find the woodwork. Bodily gathered the rebound and took one final crack only to have it blocked and cleared.
In the 58th minute, Seattle U was able to get on the board with a header off a long cross from the left side to break the ice. After some more Redhawk pressure, the Huskies to once again gather the momentum and look for the equalizer.
Washington won a free kick after the lone yellow card was handed to Seattle U. The kick was taken by Cole Grimsby from the right side about 35 yards out. The ball went right toward the front of the net, bouncing around before being cleared. It came right back to the top of the box where Grimsby tried a long header, but sent it just over the net.
One minute later, Coffee beat a pair of defenders on the left side of the box and cracked a shot from a tough angle. However, it was saved by Seattle U keeper Josh Adachi..
In the 73rd minute Dylan Teves, who had recently come off the bench, got a chance with a hard full volley sent toward the far post, but sailed just inches over the the post.
Seattle U would add an insurance goal in the 83rd minute. After a questionable foul cal on the far side of the field, the Redhawks quickly restarted play, sending the ball to the left side. A quick cross was gathered and finished from close range to make it 2-0.
Washington played in front of another capacity crowd at Husky Soccer Stadium with 2,994 fans taking in the Seattle Derby--the fourth-largest crowd in stadium history. Three of the four largest crowds to watch matches at Husky Soccer Stadium have been during Seattle Derby matches.
