SEATTLE --- No.2 Washington recorded its eighth-straight victory thanks to goals from four different players in a 4-0 victory over Gonzaga in a non-conference match Wednesday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
ย
The Huskies improve to 12-1-0 on the season and stay perfect at 7-0-0 at home. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-8-1 overall.
ย
Washington continued to spread the scoring wealth with four players scoring goals and two others adding assists. Junior Blake Bodily had a goal and an assist with freshman Imanol Rosales tallying a pair of goals.
ย
Meanwhile, the Husky defense put on a clinic, holding Gonzaga to just two shots with none going on frame. Freshman Sam Fowler picked up the victory to improve to 6-0-0 to start his career and lowered his goals against average to an NCAA-best 0.14. He shared the shutout with redshirt sophomore Andrew Morrison, who made his collegiate debut in the match.
ย
After controlling possession through the first part of the game, the Huskies broke through with a goal in the 15th minute. Bodily brought the ball down the left side, carrying it from midfield to near the end line. He then sent in a perfect low cross to the front of the goal where Gio Miglietti sent it home for the easy finish.
ย
Just before the half the Huskies added a second goal as Rosales moved the ball around a pair of defenders on the left side before sending a cross into the box. Bodily saw the ball deflect off his hip and go into the goal to double the UW lead with 20 seconds to go in the period.
ย
Washington added a third goal in a similar fashion in the 57th minute as Tyler Smith sent a cross from inside the near edge of the box which found Joey Parish, who's diving header found the back of the net to give him two goals on the year.
ย
The Huskies would close out the scoring in the 70th minute as Jaret Townsend worked around a defender and fired a blast from just inside the box to stretch the lead to four.
ย
Washington held a 23-2 edge in shots in the match with 12 Huskies recording a shot. Bodily took over the point lead on the team with the goal and assist, giving him five of each on the season for 15 points. With Tyler Smith recording his first point of the season with his assist on Parish's goal, the Huskies now have 16 players with a point this year.
