Purple Clinches Purple And Gold World Series With 6-2 Win

SEATTLE β Braiden Ward was 2 for 4 with three stolen bases and a pair of runs β including the go-ahead tally β as the Purple squad beat the Gold, 6-2, Saturday at Husky Ballpark to clinch the Purple and Gold World Series.
Gold scored both their runs in first inning but couldn't hold off the veteran-led Purple team as they tallied a pair of runs in the third inning and added four more in the decisive fifth inning.
Freshman Will Simpson gave the Gold team an early 1-0 lead with a run-scoring triple in the first inning. He would score on a RBI ground out by left fielder Preston Viltz to make it 2-0.
Purple got on the board in the third when Ward singled, stole second and came around to score on a double to centerfield by Davis Delorefice. Kaiser Weiss tied the game up with a double off the wall in right that scored Delorefice.Β
In the fifth, Ward led off with a single and stole second. After and infield single by Delorefice, Ward stole third, which proved big when he was able to cross the plate for the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice groundout by Ramon Bramasco.
Designated hitter Rollie Nichols would drive in a pair of runs with a single and catcher Michael Petrie capped the scoring with a RBI single.Β
Diego Barrera came on in relief in the fourth inning and pitched 1 2/3 strong innings to pick up the win.
Dylan Lamb pitched a perfect seventh to close out the game.
The two teams wrap up fall ball with a final game on Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Husky Ballpark.
