
Cerrillo Named Pac-12 Scholar Athlete Of The Year

SAN FRANCISCO β The Pac-12 Conference has named Washington outfielder Mason Cerrillo as the 2019 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award has been established to honor the top senior student-athlete that are standouts both academically and in competition.

Cerrillo, from Auburn, Wash., wrapped up his two-year career at Washington with a .305 average in 108 games played. In 2019, he had a team-high 197 at bats and hit .264 with 52 hits and 25 runs batted in.

He led the 2018 World Series Husky squad with 76 hits and 23 multi-hit games after transferring from Bellevue College. Cerrillo was second on that team with a .341 average and earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honorable mention.

In the classroom, Cerrillo carries a 3.69 cumulative grade point average as a Public and Environmental Health major. He was named earlier on Thursday to the First Team All-Pac-12 Academic team. Cerrillo has been named to the UW Dean's List in four quarters and is studying to become a firefighter.

Cerrillo has also spent time in the Washington community volunteering at food banks and working at youth camps.

Cerrillo joins Tyler Davis (2015) as Huskies that have earned Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.

The award caps a banner day in academic success for the Huskies. Washington had 12 players on the All-Pac-12 Academic team, including a league-high five on the first and second teams.
A Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be named in each of the Pac-12's 24 sponsored sports: baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, beach volleyball, men's cross country, women's cross country, football, men's golf, women's golf, women's gymnastics, women's lacrosse, men's rowing, women's rowing, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track & field, women's track & field, women's volleyball, and wrestling. The award was first established during the 2007-08 academic year.
