Spring Campaign Starts Monday at Arizona Intercollegiate

SEATTLE – The No. 17 University of Washington men's golf team opens up its spring campaign this week at the Arizona Intercollegiate, Monday-Tuesday, Jan. 27-28. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be competed at the par-71, 7,292 yard, Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson. Washington tees off alongside New Mexico on Monday at 7 a.m. PT.
THE FIELD: Joining the Huskies in the 14-team field are host Arizona, Baylor, New Mexico, Long Beach State, St. Mary's (CA), Arkansas-Little Rock, Mississippi State, Iowa State, UTSA, Louisiana-Monroe, UTEP, Washington State and New Mexico State.
THE LINEUP: The Huskies will play junior Noah Woolsey, senior Henry Lee, freshman Bo Peng, sophomore Paul Margolis and junior Jan Schneider. Additionally, senior Shamu Bodhidatta, freshman Nate Anderson and sophomore Ranveer Grewal will compete as individuals.
PAC-12 GOLFER OF THE MONTH X2: Junior Noah Woolsey and freshman Petr Hruby each earned the honor of Pac-12 Golfer of the Month during the fall season as Woolsey picked up September's honor while Hruby was named November's golfer of the month. They were the first Dawgs to win Pac-12 Golfer of the Month honors since March of 2015 (C.T. Pan).
TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS: Washington had a successful fall campaign as it won three of the five tournaments it competed in. The Dawgs opened with back-to-back team victories at the Husky Invitational before knocking off No. 1 Wake Forest at its home course in the Old Town Intercollegiate. After an eighth-place showing at the tough Maridoe Intercollegiate, the Huskies responded by taking home the team title at the Georgetown Intercollegiate by a commanding 27 strokes. They also finished second at the tough Ka'anapali Collegiate to close the fall season.
HUSKY INVITATIONAL CHAMPS: The Dawgs opened the 2019-20 season with a win as they defended their team title at the Husky Invitational. Washington won the rain-shortened two-round event by nine strokes finishing with a 22-under 554 (274-280). Juniors Noah Woolsey and Jan Schneider finished with a share of the individual crown closing the 36 holes at 6-under 138. Schneider's 6-under 66 in round one was the best showing by a dawg in the event.
WHAT'S BACK: Juniors Noah Woolsey and Jan Schneider were first and second on the team in stroke average a year ago while senior Henry Lee was third and all three return to lead the Huskies this season. Woolsey competed in all 10 events, posting two top 10 efforts and finishing with a 72.60 stroke average. Schneider recorded five sub-70 rounds a year ago and was UW's top finisher in three events. Lee, the lone senior on this year's squad, led the team with three top 10 showings a year ago.
WHO'S NEW: Washington welcomes three newcomers to the team this year in Bo Peng, Petr Hruby and Nate Anderson. Peng, originally from Nanjing, China, comes to Seattle from Lake Mary, Florida. Hruby is from the Czech Republic and competed for Bishop Gates Golf Academy in Florida before coming to the Pacific Northwest while Anderson is from Paradise Valley in Arizona.
SPRING SCHEDULE: Head coach Alan Murray Huskies will open the spring campaign at Arizona before heading to Tallahassee to take part in the Seminole Intercollegiate (Feb. 22-23). The Dawgs then will compete on the prestigious Bandon Dunes course in Oregon for the Bandon Dunes Championship, March 8-10. Following the Duck Invitational (March 23-24), the Dawgs will take part at The Goodwin hosted by Stanford, March 26-28. Closing the season, Washington will play in the Western Intercollegiate, April 13-15 before hosting the Pac-12 Championships at Seattle Golf Club, April 27-29.
HUSKIES IN THE PROS: Washington golf alumni have been very visible on the pro circuits this season with C.T. Pan has had a ranking as high as 35 on the FedEx Cup and has recorded one win and two top 10 finishes this season with his first PGA Tour victory coming at the RBC Heritage. He also finished tied for third at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Alex Prugh has earned a victory on the Korn Ferry Tour while Corey Pereira has posted three top 25 showings on the Korn Ferry Tour as well.
