
Huskies Pull Upset In Doubles But Fall 5-2 at Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. --- Vanessa Wong and Natsuho Arakawa pulled an upset over the No. 28 ranked doubles team, but Washington was unable to pull out the match win, falling 5-2 at Kansas on Sunday morning.
The Huskies (8-3) picked up the doubles point thanks to the victory by Wong and Arakawa who cruised to an easy 6-2 win over the No. 28 ranked team of Malkia Ngounoue and Luniuska Delgado. Zoey Weil and Sedona Gallagher were first off with a commanding 6-1 win at No. 3. At No. 2 doubles, Katarina Kopcalic and Nika Zupancic were in the midst of a close match trailing the No. 39-ranked doubles team from Kansas 4-3, but were leading in the set when the doubles point was clinched.
In singles play, Kansas was able to win four matches in straight sets to clinch the match win. The Husky highlight came at No. 2 where No. 82 Arakawa was able to pull out a win over No. 113 Ngounoue 6-4, 7-6 to remain perfect in singles play this spring at 11-0. She is 20-2 in singles play overall this season and has won 14-straight dating back to the fall.
Washington returns home to host Illinois on Feb. 23 at Noon at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
