2020 Season Starts In Atlanta
February 03, 2020 | Softball
SEATTLE - The #1 Washington Huskies start their 2020 campaign this week, beginning at the Buzz Classic in Atlanta. This will be Washington's first trip to Atlanta since 2009, when they defeated Georgia Tech in Super Regionals en route to the program's first national title.
The nation's number-one team in the NFCA preseason poll, the Huskies will start the season with a tough road trip. First up are five games in Atlanta. The Dawgs will face host Georgia Tech twice, as well as play each of Ohio, UAB, and Furman once. The season's first game will be February 7 against Ohio at 12:30 pm PT. Only the games against Georgia Tech will have live video available, with those streamed via the ACC Network Extra, a paid subscription service.
Washington will stay on the road for another week before returning home, heading to Florida for the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Elite Invitational, which begins February 13. This will be Washington's longest road trip of the year.

ALL-AMERICANS, ONE AND ALL | |
Four Huskies earned All-American awards in 2019: Sis Bates (1st Team), Gabbie Plain (1st), Morganne Flores (2nd), and Taran Alvelo (3rd). Only once in school history has Washington had more All-Americans in a single year: 1996, when the Huskies had five. Alvelo, Bates, and Plain each earned the second All-American awards of their careers, making it 17 Huskies ever to earn multiple All-American awards. Flores is the 32nd individual Husky to be named an All-American in school history. This season will be just the third time in school history Washington has returned three All-Americans from the season before: the Huskies also did so in 1999 and last season. |

IN THE RECORD BOOKS | |
A number of Huskies have a chance to move up in the record books this year. Morganne Flores has 44 career homers, putting her fifth in Husky history already. With 14 homers this year, she can move to third all-time, behind Kristen Rivera (79) and Jaime Clark (73). Sis Bates, who is 18th in UW history in hits, needs 32 hits to become the 16th Husky with 250 hits in their career and could reach 4th in UW history in hits with another 75+ hit year. Bates also needs three triples to tie for the all-time record (Ashley Charters & Becky Newbry, 16). |

LEADER OF THE PAC | |
Washington was ranked in the nation's top ten every week of the season, never dropping below #7 in the country. The Huskies have been ranked in the top ten for 38 consecutive weeks and in the top 25 for 179 consecutive weeks. The last time Washington was unranked was the end of 2008. Washington also won the Pac-12 championship, the fourth Pac-12 championship in school history and second under Heather Tarr. |

WE'RE NUMBER ONE | |
Washington was ranked the nation's number one team by the NFCA to begin the season. This is the second time in school history that Washington has been ranked #1: the Huskies also started the 2010 season ranked #1 as they began their defense of the program's 2009 national championship. Washington has now been ranked #1 in two of the last three seasons and has not dropped out of the top ten at any point during those years. Washington was ranked #1 for nine weeks in 2018, making the WCWS championship series. |
