Huskies Fall in Series Opener to No. 11 Oregon
May 07, 2021 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. -- It was a tough start to the weekend for the Washington Huskies (17-22, 3-13), as they fell to the No. 11 Oregon Ducks (28-11, 12-7) by a score of 8-0 at PK Park in Eugene.Β
UW had a couple of early scoring opportunities, as the Huskies got runners on first and third to start off the second and third innings. However, they could not push a runner across in either frame.
The Ducks would get to starter Logan Gerling in the bottom of the third inning. After two walks put runners on first and second, a ground-rule double scored the first run of the game. A groundout and RBI single later in the inning made it a 3-0 lead for Oregon. In the bottom of the fifth, a leadoff solo home run made it 4-0 before a bases-clearing double made it 7-0 in favor of the Ducks.Β
Oregon added another in the eighth for insurance.Β
David Rhodes threw 3.2 strong innings of reliefΒ for UW to help save the bullpen for the restΒ of the series. Offensively, Michael Snyder had his third straight game with a hit and Ramon Bramasco went 2-for-3 to raise his batting average back over .300.
Game two of the series will be Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. and Tyson Guerrero will get the start for the Huskies.Β
