Grand Canyon Classic Next For Huskies

SEATTLE – No. 11 Washington softball closes out four straight weekends on the road at the Grand Canyon Classic in Phoenix. Over the three days, the Huskies will face Michigan State, Boise State, New Mexico, Charlotte and Grand Canyon at GCU Softball Stadium.
Washington enters the weekend with a record of 13-3. The Huskies are 12th in the nation in scoring, averaging 7.38 runs per game, which ranks second amongst conference teams. Along the way, the UW pitching staff has recorded eight shutouts – ranking fourth in the nation. The Huskies are batting .314 as a team while holding opponents to a .207 average. Washington has tallied 49 extra base hits.

30 SEASONS OF WASHINGTON SOFTBALL
2023 marks the 30th season of Washington softball. The Huskies first year as a program was in 1993. Head coach Heather Tarr has been a part of 24 of 30 seasons in the Purple and Gold as a player, manager and coach.
THE LAST TIME OUT
Washington came out of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a record of 4-1 with the lone loss coming to #18 Kentucky in extra innings. Junior pitcher Kelley Lynch opened up the tournament with her first career no-hitter against Bethune-Cookman. Along the way, Lynch struck out a season-high 13 strikeouts.
Freshman catcher Sydney Stewart led the team with a .571 average with four hits and three RBI. Baylee Klingler had a team-high 10 hits while driving in four. Madison Huskey recorded thee home runs over the five game to bring her team-leading total up to six on the season.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Michigan State sits a 6-8 on the season. Senior Jessica Mabrey leads the team with a .364 average and a 1.078 OPS. Mandy Esman leads the team with 10 RBI on the year. The Spartan pitching staff holds a 3.85 ERA with Ashley Miller leading the way with four complete game and two shutouts in 52 innings pitched.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
Boise State is 7-7 on the season. Mykenzie Hanna leads the way with a .419 batting average with three doubles and two home runs. Three Broncos have over 10 RBI on the season in Jordyn Hutchins (14) Eliyah Flores (12), and Alycia Flores (11).

New Mexico is 6-9 on the season, with a doubleheader against UTEP on Wednesday. Keyannah Chavez leads the team with a .375 average. Rachel Hathoot has 10 RBI and Maddie Boldt leads the way with three home runs. Amber Linto leads the pitching staff with five complete game
SCOUTING THE NINERS
Charlotte is 9-4 on the year and receiving votes in NFCA Coaches Poll. Bailey Vannoy was named C-USA Player of the Week following her performance last weekend at the Queen City Classic. Vannoy hit four home runs over the five games. The 49ers hold a 2.12 team ERA with three pitchers under two.
SCOUTING THE LOPES
Grand Canyon is 16-1 on the season. The last time out, the Lopes no-hit CSU Bakersfield in a doubleheader on Tuesday. As a team, GCU is batting .360 with seven players over .300. Kristin Fifield is second nationally with 30 RBI and top-5 with seven home runs. The Grand Canyon pitching staff holds a 1.38 ERA.
