Purohit, Pearson Advance At Regionals

STOCKTON, Calif. – Main draw action kicked into gear today at ITA Northwest Regionals, hosted by Pacific in Stockton, California. The Dawgs had two of their four men in the main singles draw move through into the round of 32.
Soham Purohit, the No. 8 seed in the draw, had a three set win over Tom Garcia of Portland. He was leading 3-0 in the third when Garcia was forced to retire.
Brett Pearson came through qualifying on Thursday and kept going today, beating Jony Giesen of Pacific, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Stpehane Kamendje had a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Nico Rating of Pacific and Rohan Belday fell in a very tight three setter, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) to Ivan Savkin of UC Davis.
Doubles play also got underway, with Pearson and Purohit teaming up and advancing there as well. They beat Bowles and Ballestero of Sacramento State, 8-4. The pairs of Daniel Bien and Nikola Plavsic, and Belday and Kamendje, fell short in their main draw matches.
Round of 32 singles play goes Saturday.
