February 15, 2025 | Baseball
CONWAY, S.C. – Washington dropped its second game of the season on Saturday against Saint Joseph's, 3-0. The Huskies move to 1-1 on the season following the loss.
Reilly McAdams got off to a strong start on Saturday, striking out five batters in the first two innings.
In the third, he added a sixth strikeout, but Saint Joseph's was able to score on a single to right field with the bases loaded. Another runner rounded third for home, but Malakhi Knight caught him at the plate to keep the scoring to just a single run.
While the Husky defense kept Saint Joseph's in check, the Washington offense struggled to get going. The Hawks starting pitcher threw six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit.
Jackson Hotchkiss recorded the first double of his career while Trevor Kole recorded two of the Huskies' four hits. Casen Taggart added a single in the ninth for his first Washington hit.
Jackson Thomas and Gunnar Nichols each made their Washington debut, with the former taking over for McAdams and recording three hitless and scoreless innings along with four strikeouts.
Nichols pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two hits and two runs with two strikeouts of his own before Sawyer Parkin entered the game to finish off the ninth inning.
Julian Sanders earned his first start for the Huskies, batting fourth in the order as the designated hitter. Colin Blanchard also made his season debut, batting sixth and playing catcher.
Washington returns to action on Sunday, taking on Coastal Carolina at 12:30 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
