Huskies Fall In Offensive Duel With Stanford

Washington falls to 2-4 on the season while Stanford moves to 6-0.

On the very first pitch of the game, junior short stop Sam DeCarlo launched a towering homer to left field, sending the ball 402 feet for his first home run of the year. He scored the first run in a game where the Huskies scored their second-best run total of the season.

Reilly McAdams earned the start on Saturday, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing seven runs while striking out five batters. Three of those strikeouts came from Stanford first baseman Rintaro Sasaki.

Stanford used a big third inning to jump in front 6-1, but Washington responded immediately, tallying a season-best eight runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead.

Braeden Terry got the fourth inning rally started with a single to the right side, bringing home Trevor Kole who earned a walk to open the inning. Cooper Whitton added a single and Blake Wilson drove both Terry and Whitton home on a double to left center.

AJ Guerrero got in on the action, hitting an RBI single before Casen Taggart drove in three with a double to left center. Trevor Kole had a second at bat in the inning and hit an RBI single, the final run to score that inning.

Stanford found more offense in the sixth inning however, taking an 11-9 lead at the end of the sixth.

The Huskies put runners on base in the seventh and eighth inning, but they were unable to find the tying runs.

Following Reilly McAdams' exit, Gunnar Nichols, Isaac Yeager, and Peysen Sweeney combined to pitch the final three innings. Sweeney closed the game with two scoreless innings, allowing only one walk and one hit while striking out one batter.

Washington returns to action in the third game of the series on Sunday, February 23. Tommy Brandenburg will be on the bump for the Huskies up against Joey Volchko for the Cardinal.
