April 22, 2025 | Baseball
BELLEVUE, Wash. – The Huskies took the third and final game of the season series against Seattle U on Tuesday 11-1, completing the sweep. The win was Washington's 10th in the last 13 games.
Washington improves to 22-20 on the season while Seattle U drops to 15-24.
The Huskies put together a dominant pitching display, spearheaded by Tommy Brandenburg. He earned his second consecutive win, pitching 5.0 innings while allowing only a single hit and striking out three.
Bradley Gilbert tossed two innings while Micah Bujacich and Peysen Sweeney each added one frame in relief.
The offense started immediately for the Diamond Dawgs as they bagged a run in the first inning and added three more in the second. But the biggest impact came in the sixth when they hung five, thanks in large part to an AJ Guerrero grand slam.
The home run was Guerrero's 38th career long ball and inched him closer to No. 3 in the Washington record book (41, Zach Clem).
Washington tallied 14 hits in the win, led by Guerrero with three knocks along with five RBIs. It's the first five-RBI game for any Husky this season.
Sam DeCarlo, Braeden Terry, and Trevor Kole each had two-hit games as well with Terry chipping in two runs batted-in, coming from a double in the second inning.
Casen Taggart and Braeden Terry each extended their reached-base streaks to 16, the joint-longest of any Dawgs this season.
The Husky batters were largely efficient on Tuesday, batting .359 (14-39) overall. But the Huskies performed even better with runners in scoring position (.368, 7-19) and in advancement opportunities (.517, 15-29).
The Huskies return to Big Ten action at Northwestern this weekend, kicking off a three-game set in Evanston, Ill. on Friday.
