Huskies Take Down SDSU Behind Nichols’ Gem And Five Draper RBIs

SEATTLE – Washington got back on track Sunday afternoon in emphatic fashion, dismantling San Diego State 11-2. The Huskies move to 2-9 on the year with the victory.
Washington was productive across the board on Sunday, using decisive pitching and explosive bats to take the win.
Gunnar Nichols turned in a dominant performance in his third Husky start. The senior threw 6.0 innings, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out a career-high 10 batters.
He moves to 1-2 on the year with the victory. Among Husky starters this year, he leads the team in hits allowed (9), runs allowed (6), strikeouts (18), and batting average allowed (.191).
On the offensive end, Washington scored early and often to take the win. The Huskies were led by Ian Draper in RBIs with five, including a three-RBI double in the second inning.
The freshman went 3-5 on the day as the designated hitter and raised his season batting average to .389.
Braeden Terry continued his hot hand in the batter's box as well. The left fielder went 4-5 on the day, his third game of three hits or more in the last week.
Daniel Porras, Mic Paul, and Ty Cowan all turned in multi-hit performances as well.
Ethan Swidler flexed his batting muscle in the third inning, launching a solo home run to put Washington firmly in front at 7-0.
Tommy Brandenburg closed out the game for Washington, pitching the final three innings of the game to earn the save. He allowed three hits and one run while striking out three batters.
The Huskies will look to build on the momentum in the series finale on Monday afternoon. Washington and San Diego State square off for the fourth and final time as Hayden Lewis takes the mound at Husky Ballpark.
