
Huskies Host Ohio State In First Home Big Ten Series Of Season

SEATTLE - Washington continues Big Ten action at Husky Ballpark this weekend, hosting Ohio State for a three-game series. It's the first ever meeting between the two programs as conference foes, and Friday will be just the third meeting all-time between the Huskies and the Buckeyes.
First pitch for Friday is slated for 7 p.m. with all three games being broadcast on Big Ten Plus and live stats available at HuskyStats.com.
DAWG BITES
On July 9, 2024, Eddie Smith was named the 25th head coach of University of Washington baseball, announced by UW Director of Athletics Pat Chun. Smith, a native of Olympia, Washington, comes to Montlake after three seasons at Utah Valley. Smith begins his second season at the helm of the Huskies in 2026.
UP NEXT
Washington hosts Ohio State for the first Big Ten series on Montlake this season. The two teams will face off in three games from Friday through Sunday over the weekend of March 13-15.
THREE STRAIGHT WINS
The Huskies earned their third victory in a row on Tuesday, taking down cross-town foe Seattle U 7-4 at Husky Ballpark. Washington moves to 6-10 on the season with the win. The Diamond Dawgs used a balanced and consistent offense and strong pitching to secure the win, collecting 13 hits and 15 strikeouts.
Jackson Hotchkiss went 4-4 from the plate on Tuesday, leading the Huskies to a victory. He has now hit safely in all four games he's played in this season. Three Huskies are on a four-game or better hitting streak (Taggart – 5, Hotchkiss – 4, Bower – 4). Taggart and Mic Paul have also reached base safely in each of the last seven games.
KEEP YOUR EYES ON KENNEY
Noah Kenney has been named to the College Baseball Foundation's Pitcher of the Year watch list, the organization announced on Wednesday. Kenney is on of 141 of the nation's best hurlers that were listed according to the CBF. The pitchers on the watch list represent 26 different conferences and reflect the top mound performers to this point of the 2026 season.
Kenney has had a strong start to the campaign which has garnered him the national attention. He's collected one win so far in his three starts and has the most innings pitched (20.1) and strikeouts (24) of any Husky. The right-hander has four appearances and three starts this year, pitching more than four innings each time he's taken the mound. Among his three starts, he's thrown at least five innings in each, including five frames of hitless ball in a win against LMU.
B1G SERIES WON
In the first Big Ten series of the season, Washington took down Indiana two games to one to earn a big series victory. Washington earned wins on Saturday and Sunday to secure the series victory, pushing the Huskies to five wins on the season.
On Saturday, Jackson Thomas pitched a season-high 7.0 innings while allowing 0 earned runs. It was Thomas' second straight quality start after throwing 6.0 innings with nine strikeouts and three runs allowed against San Diego State over the previous weekend. Daniel Porras also launched his third home run of the season and tallied three hits, his fourth multi-hit game of the season helping Washington to a 9-2 win.
The Huskies closed the series with a 13-4 thrashing of the Hoosiers, a season-high run total and a season-high 17 hits. Four of the knocks came from Colton Bower, comprised of three home runs and a triple. Hayden Lewis tossed 4.1 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win on Sunday. Carson Boesel helped close the game as well and has the lowest ERA on the team (0.77) in his 11.2 innings pitched. The Huskies batted .405 as a team and tallied four total home runs in the series-clinching win.
B1G-TIME BOWER
After a dominant week at the plate, Colton Bower has been named the Big Ten Conference's Player of the Week. He becomes Washington's first weekly honoree this season and the first since AJ Guerrero last season (April 28, 2025).
Bower's huge offensive output led the Huskies to a 3-1 record over the last week, including a series win at Indiana. On Sunday, the catcher became just the second Husky ever to record three home runs in a single game. In total, Bower compiled a 2.220 OPS, a 1.636 slugging percentage, and a .545 (6-for-11) batting average with three home runs, a triple, and seven runs batted in.
In addition to his outlandish offensive numbers, Bower also made 22 putouts behind the plate, including a perfect fielding percentage for the week.After his monstrous week, Bower now paces the team in slugging percentage (.651) and home runs (4), and extra base hits (8).
BRAEDEN TERRY BOOMING
Braeden has been on a tear for the Dawgs, currently leading all starters with a .365 batting average and 19 total hits. He has the best on base percentage as well among players who've started 75% of games, sitting at .443. Terry has also tagged three triples this season, the sixth-most in the NCAA and is averaging one three-bagger every five games, the 18th-best clip in the nation.
Terry has been terrorizing right handed pitchers this season. He's batting 19-45 against righties this year, hitting at a .422 clip. He's also hitting .320 with runners on base.
MARCH MADNESS
Washington has been on fire since the start of the month. In February, the Huskies went 1-9. Since the calendar turned over, the Huskies have rattled off five wins in the last six games and are currently riding a three-game winning streak heading into the first home conference series of the season.
FRESHMAN FIREPOWER
Landon Young made the most of his action over the weekend after entering Saturday's contest as a defensive replacement at third base. In the sixth inning, he bagged his first collegiate hit and RBI. He then made multiple big defensive plays at the hot corner to keep the Huskies in front. On Sunday, Young made his first career start and did not disappoint. The freshman tagged his first career home run, helping Washington to the 13-4 victory. He earned his second career start against Seattle U, adding two hits and two runs in his three at bats.
MULTI-HIT HUSKIES
Four Dawgs have recorded at least four multi-hit games this season, led by Braeden Terry with six. Terry, Colton Bower, and Jackson Hotchkiss have each recorded a four-hit game. Mic Paul has five multi-hit games while Ty Cowan, and Daniel Porras have four. Ian Draper, Colton Bower, and Ethan Swidler each have three.
HUSKY HURLERS
The Huskies pitching staff has been dominant in the month of March. In total, the Washington pitching staff allowed an ERA of 2.55 over the last six contests, including perfect 0.00 ERAs for Jackson Thomas and Carson Boesel. During the 5-1 stretch, the Husky pitchers have struck out 61 batters while allowing just 19 walks. Washington has surrendered just two home runs as well.
TRIPLE THREAT
The Huskies have knocked eight triples this season, the most in the Big Ten and the seventh-most in the NCAA.
