Washington Walks Off Ohio State In Extras
March 15, 2026 | Baseball
SEATTLE – Daniel Porras singled through the right side in the bottom of the 11th inning to secure a 5-4 win for Washington over Ohio State on Saturday evening.
The Huskies improve to 7-11 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
Ohio State scored two runs in the first and two in the third to take a 4-1 lead, but the Husky pitching and defense shut down the Buckeye batters throughout the next eight frames. Liam Lierman and Gunnar Nichols combined to pitch 8.0 innings in relief while allowing just two hits against 10 strikeouts.
Jackson Hotchkiss ripped his second home run in as many games to start the offense in the bottom of the first. He now has three home runs on the season in his six total starts.
Washington then used a three-spot in the fifth to knot the game at four. Daniel Porras started the frame with a leadoff double. Aidan Dougherty earned a free bag from a hit by pitch to put two on with two outs for Landon Young.
The third baseman delivered for Washington, singling just out of reach of the shortstop to push Porras home and Dougherty to third. Braeden Terry drove in Dougherty and Young with a single of his own to tie the game.
Neither team could find a scoring run for the next five innings. In the 11th, that changed when Porras returned to the plate.
Jackson Hotchkiss earned a walk to start the inning and was advanced on a Ty Cowan sacrifice bunt. Sam DeCarlo pushed Hotchkiss to third with a single to then bring Porras up to bat.
On the first pitch, Porras connected precisely with the ball, driving it through the right side into the outfield for a single. Hotchkiss trotted home, and the celebrations ensued.
Porras and Young led the Husky hitters on Saturday night, each with two hits in four at bats. Young brings his batting average up to .476 for the season.
Jackson Thomas pitched the first three innings of the day, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out three batters.
The Huskies will look to take the series in the rubber game on Sunday at 1 p.m. Hayden Lewis will take the mound for Washington in the finale against Ohio State.
