Huskies Drop Match Despite Impressive Start against Top-Ranked Ducks
March 21, 2026 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE - The University of Washington Men's Tennis Team dropped a Big Ten match against Oregon Saturday afternoon by 4-1. With this result, Washington is now (7-10) on the season and (1–4) in Big Ten play. The Huskies return to play next Friday on the road against Nebraska and Sunday on the road against Wisconsin.
What a way to open a rivalry match! Doubles began with a fast start, with all matches holding an early lead. Stephane Kamendje and Rohan Belday at the Huskies No. 3 would see themselves opening the scoring in the match, closing out the Ducks 6-3 after a comfortable opening. Huskies' No. 1 pair and No. 89 nationally ranked Soham Purohit and Brett Pearson opened the match with a back-and-forth affair against Oregon's No. 1 and nationally ranked No. 34 M. Burton/Mouesca. Brett and Soham would go down 5-4 after tying the match, which would be ended after a 30-30 match point that went the way of the Ducks pair to end 6-4. From the No.2 Nikola Plavsic and Daniel Bien would give the Huskies the match lead after snapping a four-match winless run, and a seven-match No. 2 position winless streak, by way of a massive 6-4 win.
From Singles play, the Huskies again had multiple matches go the full distance, with Rohan Belday, Hyeonseok Seo, and Stephane Kamendje all forcing a third set. Rohan and Hyeon wouldn't finish their matches as Oregon would win the clinching point in a 6-4 tiebreak set in Stephane's match against Pierre Mouesca.
Upperclassmen Brett Pearson and Soham Purohit would go on to drop their respective singles matches, as Soham faced the No. 115 player in the nation, Vlad Breazu, dropping that match 6-3, 6-3. Brett would face Matthew Burton, also dropping that match 6-3, 6-1. Rounding out the singles lineup, Daniel Bien would put up an impressive fight against the Ducks' No. 6, ultimately that match would be won by Oregon in the second set, with a final score of 7-5, 6-4.
