Huskies Fall In Game One To Michigan State
April 17, 2026 | Baseball
SEATTLE – Washington dropped game one to Michigan State on Friday night, falling 6-4 to the Spartans at Husky Ballpark.
The Huskies move to 16-21 on the year and 7-9 in the Big Ten.
Noah Kenney threw into the ninth inning of the contest, finishing with a career-best 8.1 innings pitched in his ninth start of the season. His line included six runs, five of which were earned, five hits, two walks, and six strikeouts.
Sam DeCarlo got the Husky offense started in the fifth inning when he tagged his fifth home run of the season. It was a hard-hit solo shot to right field, clearing the wall without any help from the wind.
The Washington shortstop went on to add a double in the seventh that would help the Huskies plate three more runs to bring the game within one.
After a Ty Cowan RBI single to score DeCarlo, Washington strung together multiple smart at bats, drawing two walks with the bases loaded to make it a 5-4 ballgame.
Despite bringing the game within striking distance, the Huskies couldn't find the decisive hit. The Spartans went on to score one more in the ninth.
In total, the Huskies knocked 10 hits, four more than Michigan State's six. Ty Cowan led all Husky hitters with three knocks while both Sam DeCarlo and Landon Young chipped in two.
Mic Paul, Braeden Terry, and Blake Wilson had one hit apiece.
Tommy Brandenburg closed out the game for Washington, securing the final two outs in the ninth after Noah Kenney exited the game.
Washington will look to punch back on Saturday night in game two of the series. The Huskies and Spartans face off again at 7 p.m. at Husky Ballpark.
