Moll Raises NCAA Record, Rhodes Runs Sub-45 400
April 18, 2026 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – Hana Moll got back to work rewriting the NCAA recordbook and Alex Rhodes broke the 45-second mark in the 400-meters on a thrilling final day of action for Washington at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Then tonight, to wrap up racing at the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Husky mid-distance crew turned heads with NCAA top-20 times in the 1,500-meters from Chloe Foerster, Mia Cochran, Reuben Reina, and Tyler Bilyard.
Moll, the three-time NCAA Pole Vault Champion, opened up her outdoor season today by breaking her own NCAA Outdoor Record by half an inch, making 15-feet, 9-inches, to win the Mt. SAC Relays. She took three shots at a new lifetime-best of 16-1 3/4, but did not clear that today. The 15-9 clearance is the new NCAA outdoor leader by eight inches, it broke the Meet Record and tied the Hilmer Lodge Stadium record set by Olympic Gold Medalist Ekaterina Stefanidi in 2021.
Rhodes cemented himself among the national leaders with his second-straight personal-best in the 400-meter dash, going sub-45 for the first time, the signature mark for any elite quarter miler. After running a big PR two weeks ago of 45.22 at Stanford, Rhodes ran on the outside lane in a loaded race that featured U.S. Olympian Vernon Norwood. Rhodes took third overall in the race in a time of 44.94, going to No. 3 in the NCAA this season.
Rhodes joins Ja'Warren Hooker (44.78; 2000) and Jordan Boase (44.82; 2008) as the only Huskies with 44-second 400 times.
At Bryan Clay, heat after heat of 1,500-meter runs featured big runs from the Dawgs. Mia Cochran won heat two of the elite invitational sections, breaking 4:10 for the first time with a PR of 4:09.95. That moves Cochran up to No. 6 in UW history and into the top-20 nationally this season. In the fastest women's heat, Chloe Foerster took fourth overall in a season's-best time of 4:08.64.
It was a similar chain of events on the men's side. In the second-fastest men's heat, the Dawgs took the win, as Tyler Bilyard set a PR of 3:37.99. In the loaded top heat, Reuben Reina was sixth overall in a time of 3:37.32. Reina now moves to No. 4 in UW history and Bilyard joins the Husky top-10 at No. 7 overall, and both rank top-20 in the NCAA this season.
Mt. SAC Relays Recap
Along with Moll's record and Rhodes' run, there were many more highlights at Hilmer Lodge.
Jimmy Rhoads continued to shine in the men's pole vault. He flew to the victory in the invite section with a make of 18-8 1/4. Rhoads then took the bar all the way up to 19-5, and had a near make, but the bar wouldn't stay today.
Amanda Moll returned to collegiate action for the first time since January, and she cleared 14-3 1/4 to move into 10th in the West Region. Sara Borton and Veronica Vacca both cleared 13-9 1/4 today which should fully secure NCAA Prelim bids next month.
Sophomore Bodi Ligons ran a big season's-best time of 51.29 in the 400-meter hurdles. Anna Terrell posted a time of 1:00.70 in the women's 400m hurdles.
Bryan Clay Invitational Recap
It was all about the 1,500-meters today to close things out at the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa, California. As usual, Washington put its miler depth on display on both the men's and women's sides.
Foerster and Cochran led the women, as previously mentioned, with Foerster going 4:08.64 for one of her fastest times, and Cochran setting a new PR of 4:09.95 to move to No. 6 in UW history. Also for the women, Jenica Swartz ran a time of 4:16.71, doubling back from a 2:03 800-meters yesterday, and Josephine Welin ran a PR of 4:18.54 two days after racing the steeplechase.
Along with the new UW top-10 times from Reina (3:37.32) and Bilyard (3:37.99), the men got several more excellent tonight. Sophomore Martin Barco notched a season's-best time of 3:40.01, freshman Josiah Tostenson took the victory in his heat with a time of 3:41.47, and Jamar Distel posted a big PR of 3:43.45.
