Regional Action Begins For Huskies With South Florida Matchup

SEATTLE – The Washington softball team (36-18, 16-8 Big Ten) is set to compete in the Fayetteville Regional, making its 32^nd consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, which is tied with Oklahoma for the longest active streak in the NCAA.

The No. 7 Dawgs will open up the 2026 NCAA Regionals with a Friday night matchup against South Florida (42-15, 21-6 American Conference) at Bogle Park on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

First pitch of Friday night's game will be at 7 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. PT and available on ESPNU.

The winner of the Washington/South Florida matchup will face the winner of No. 2 Arkansas/Fordham on Saturday in Fayetteville.

FIVE BIG HUSKY SWEEPS

Huskies swept Minnesota at home to improve to 15-0 in the Big Ten
Minnesota was the fifth B1G sweep of the season and third at home for UW
Four Huskies batted over .500 in the series, led by Sophi Mazzola (.556) who went 5-for-9 with three doubles
Alexis DeBoer notched her first grand slam of her sophomore season in game two against the Gophers, finishing the weekend with a .500 average, two home runs, a team-high nine RBI and slugging 1.100

THE FIRST B1G ROAD SWEEP

Ally Hetzel led UW with a .600 average (6-for-10) and three RBI in three games at Michigan, recording a double, a triple and two home runs
Hetzel recorded her first career multi-HR game in game 3 versus Michigan
Giselle Alvarez leads the team with multi-RBI games (11), recording three RBI against Michigan while batting .500 (6-for-12)

SWEEPING IN SEATTLE

The Huskies swept their second straight Big Ten series, picking up three more conference victories over Maryland
UW outscored Maryland 21-4
The first game of the series was the 11^th run rule victory for Washington
UW has now won 12 straight, last loss was Feb. 22 vs. LMU
UW moved up four spots in the ESPN Top-25 rankings to No. 17 after the sweep of the Terrapins, its highest ranking so far this season
Jadyn Glab led the Huskies, batting .625 (5-8) with a double, five RBI and a game-winning home run that triggered a 12-2 run rule victory in game one
Ally Hetzel (.571) and Kaycie Burdick (.500) also batted .500+ for Washington
Morgan Reimer picked up her 13^th win of the season in a 1-0 game two shutout

A SWEEPING START TO B1G PLAY

Washington swept Northwestern at home for its first B1G sweep of the year and improving to 3-0 in conference play
Seven Huskies batted over .300 in the series, led by Sophi Mazzola with a .667 average and 1.333 slugging percentage
Giselle Alvarez recorded her first career grand slam on Sunday, and first of the year for UW, to help the Huskies secure the sweep in a 10-4 victory
Alvarez batted .455 on the weekend (5-11) with a grand slam, a home run and nine RBI
Melody Acevedo recorded her first career home run in the Northwestern series finale, finishing the weekend with a .375 average

DOMINANT OFFENSE

The Huskies have outscored their opponents 351-199 through 54 games
Washington has scored the most runs in the first (58) and fifth innings (60), while giving up just 11 total runs in the seventh inning this season (outscoring opponents 18-11 in the seventh)

HOME OPENER IN SEATTLE

The Huskies defeated crosstown rival Seattle U 11-3 on March 3 in the first home game at Husky Softball Stadium
Alexis DeBoer registered the first home run on Montlake, notching a bomb to left field in the bottom of the fifth
Five Huskies recorded two RBI against the Redhawks – Jadyn Glab, Alexis DeBoer, Ava Carroll, Melody Acevedo and Kaycie Burdick
Morgan Reimer earned her 10^th win of the season in the circle, pitching 4.0 innings with four strikeouts in the six-inning victory

CALI DAWGS

At the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., the Huskies went 3-3, winning games over Saint Mary's, Auburn and BYU
The Huskies dropped to 1-5 against ranked opponents, falling to No. 22 South Carolina and No. 4 Oklahoma while in Palm Springs
After going 2-3 opening weekend, including a ranked win over then-No. 9 Nebraska, the Huskies added five more games to the win column (Feb. 13-15)
UW swept a three-game series at Fresno State and defeated San Jose State (6-1) and Santa Clara (13-0)

PRESEASON HYPE

Alexis DeBoer, Jadyn Glab and Morgan Reimer were all named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List
Alexis DeBoer was also named to USA Softball's Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List, as well as a D1 Softball and Softball America Preseason Second Team All-American.
DeBoer was named in the Top-40 overall player rankings and Top-5 by position by both organizations
Jadyn Glab was ranked as D1 Softball's 94^th overall player in its Top-100, as well as a Top-10 catcher by both D1 and Softball America
Freshmen Marley Teasley, Mila Reddy and Melody Acevedo were all named to Softball America's Big Ten Preseason Freshman Watch List

DEBUT MOMENTS

Eight Huskies made their debuts during opening weekend at UTSA – sophomore transfer Ryan Maddox and freshmen Kaycie Burdick, Mila Reddy, Marley Teasley, Amira Rodriguez, Allie Thomsen, Ally Hetzel and Zuri Patterson
Ally Hetzel recorded her first career home run, a three-run homer in UW's 17-0 win over UTSA, as well as three RBI last weekend
Teasley played and started in all five games, batting .333 with four hits on the weekend
Burdick saw action in four games and got one start, registering two hits and four RBI on the weekend
Reddy scored a run and saw action in three games
Ryan Maddox, Amira Rodriguez and Allie Thomsen all saw action in the circle during opening weekend
Maddox pitched an inning against UTSA and 2.1 innings in Washington's loss to No. 1 Texas (Feb. 7)
Rodriguez, Maddox and Thomsen each pitched in the Huskies' second matchup with Texas

WALK OFF WINNERS

During opening weekend in San Antonio, the Huskies earned their first Top-10 win of the season, thanks to a walk-off single from Jadyn Glab to win it 3-2 over No. 9 Nebraska
It was Washington's first Top-10 win since defeating No. 8 Oregon 4-3 on March 16, 2025
Glab also blasted a game-ending home run in the opening game against Maryland on March 13

OPENING WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS

Washington went 2-3 at the UTSA Invitational, picking up a 17-0 win over UTSA and a walk-off 3-2 win over No. 9 Nebraska
The Huskies lost their opening game to the Huskers 5-8 and dropped both to top-ranked Texas by scores of 6-11 and 0-5
Alexis DeBoer hit a .462 average in the opening five games of the season, while also recording a 1.231 slugging percentage and .611 on-base percentage. She scored three home runs and 4 RBI while notching a perfect fielding percentage at first base
Ava Carroll had a strong opening weekend for Washington as well, batting .438 with five runs and seven hits in a team-high 16 at-bats
Giselle Alvarez hit .267 opening weekend, registering five runs, four hits and five RBI while playing primarily at third base for the Huskies
Gabi Toney hit two dingers in the opening game of the season against No. 9 Nebraska, her second and third career home runs. On the weekend, Toney played in all five games and started in four, scoring four runs and four RBI

STARTING OFF STRONG – OPENING WEEKEND

Dating back to 2014, the Huskies are 52-11 during opening weekend.
In 2025, Washington went 2-3 at the Candrea Classic in Tucson, Ariz. In 2024, UW went 3-1 in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with the lone coming against the Oklahoma Sooners in extra innings.
In 2023, UW also went 3-1 with their lone loss coming against the Sooners, 4-5.
Prior to that, Washington went undefeated the previous three seasons over opening weekend (2022, 2021, & 2020)

ROAD TRIPPIN'

The Huskies started off 2026 with four straight weekends on the road
Week 1: UTSA Invitational in San Antonio (Feb. 6-8)
Week 2: a three-game series at Fresno State with single games against San Jose State and Santa Clara
Week 3: the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City against South Carolina, Saint Mary's, Auburn, BYU, Oklahoma and LMU (Feb. 19-22)
Week 4: University of San Diego Tournament, including two games against San Diego State, two vs. Cal Poly and one vs. CSUN
The Huskies built up a 15-6 record in preseason tournament play, including two 5-0 weekends in both Fresno (week 2) and San Diego (week 4)

HOME SWEET HOME

Washington finished the 2025 season 8-4 at home and was third in the Big Ten in average attendance in those 12 home games at Husky Softball Stadium (1,460) behind Nebraska (2,306) and Oregon (2,100)
The Huskies were No. 17 in the nation in average attendance in 2025

NEW YEAR, SAME B1G THINGS

The 2026 season marks the second for Washington as a member of the Big Ten Conference
On Aug. 2, 2024, the Huskies became official members of the Big Ten along with UCLA, USC and Oregon
The Dawgs concluded their inaugural season in the B1G with a 12-9 record and a 7th place finish. Washington lost in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in 2025 to Indiana, 0-2
