Washington Finishes In Third, Koelle Earns Runner-Up Honors
May 03, 2026 | Men's Golf
NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Washington men's golf finished the team season with a third-place finish (+2, 842) at the Big Ten Championships on Sunday afternoon at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course. Finn Koelle took home runner-up honors with his 5-under weekend.
It is the best team finish for Washington in a conference tournament since they won the Pac-12 Team Championship in 2022. It is the program's 17th Top 3 finish in a conference tournament.
"Really proud of the effort the guys showed this week," head coach Alan Murray said. "We finished the round well as a team which was pleasing as we struggled early on the back 9 so that was encouraging. We got into contention heading into the final round and although we ultimately fell short I think there are some really good signs for the future."
Koelle is the 12th Husky to finish as a conference tournament runner-up. He had his best round of the tournament on Sunday, shooting 4-under (66). The junior closed out the round with three straight birdies to lock up his runner-up finish by two strokes.
"Excellent tournament from Finn and despite a tough start he played some sensational golf down the stretch and finished second outright," Murray added.
Freshman Emil Herstad posted his second Top 10 finish of the season. He shot 1-under for the three days. Herstad matched his best round of the weekend today, shooting a 68 (-2).
"Excellent tournament from freshman Emil," Murray said. "He was very steady and making it from the fairway on 16 capped off a really solid week for him. Impressive to grab a top ten in your first conference championship in your first four months as a college golfer."
Jake Foley finished the tournament with a tie for 40th placement at 7-over. He shot a 73 (+3) today to go along with a pair of 72s.
Jacob Goode shot a 74 (+4) to close out the weekend with a 11-over overall. Grady Millar rounded out the lineup today with a 5-over round to go 5-over overall and in a tie for 29th.
"Sadly, our season finishes from a team perspective as we finished below the .500 mark to make it into NCAA Regionals despite our ranking being good enough," Murray concluded. "We likely have some guys make it as individuals."
Washington will wait for Wednesday's NCAA Selection Show to see which individuals will earn a spot in a Regional. The show will air at 11 a.m. PT on Golf Channel.
