May 03, 2026 | Softball
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 25 softball team (35-17, 16-8 Big Ten) concluded the regular season on Sunday, falling 2-3 to Ohio State at Buckeye Field.
The Huskies wrap up the regular season 35-17 and 16-8 in their second season of Big Ten play.
Sophia Ramuno threw 6.1 innings on Sunday, giving up just one run, two hits and seven strikeouts.
Melody Acevedo sparked the Washington offense with three hits, while Kaycie Burdick and Ally Hetzel each had a pair.
The Buckeyes notched back-to-back home runs to left field in the top of the first to strike first and not scoring again until the final inning, as Ramuno gave up just a pair of hits.
Four Huskies reached base in the top of the second, starting with a centerfield single from Acevedo. Hetzel followed up with a centerfield single herself, then Marley Teasley reached on a fielder's choice as Hetzel was out at second. A Burdick single scored Acevedo from third, halving the OSU lead to one run.
Both teams went three scoreless innings until Gabi Toney ended the drought in the top of the sixth, supplying a pinch-hit RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.
With the score knotted in the seventh, Alexis DeBoer singled in the top of the inning but was stranded on base. The Buckeyes walked it off with a ball hit deep to center field to secure the regular season finale and the series win.
Washington looks ahead to the Big Ten Tournament, with play starting on Wednesday, May 6. Awaiting results from Sunday's game, UW will likely be the 5-seed and will be taking on Minnesota in the first round of the conference tournament.
