2016: Completed her final season of indoor eligibility in March, and then became the first Husky women's pole vaulter ever to qualify for the Olympic Games, as she made it to Rio for her native Puerto Rico ... as the first women's pole vault Olympian in Puerto Rico history, tied for 29th at her first Olypmic Games in the qualifying round, clearing 13-7 1/4 ... made the Olympics by clearing the "A" standard at the Mt. SAC Relays, where she vaulted a lifetime-best 14-9 ... in her final NCAA season, earned a third-straight trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the pole vault, where she broke the UW indoor school record for a second time, and finished third overall ... at the NCAA Indoors, cleared 14-7 1/4, the highest mark ever by a Husky indoors or out, and finished third to earn All-America First Team honors ... first broke the UW indoor school record at the Husky Classic, clearing a then-PR of 14-5 1/4 to win ... one of three Huskies to clear 4.30-meters at the Husky Classic along with Kristina Owsinski and Elizabeth Quick ... won the MPSF Championships with a make of 13-7 3/4 ... cleared 14-0 at the UW Invitational to finish second ... won the High Performance Meet #4 in Portland with a make of 13-7 1/4 ... opened the year with a make of 13-6 1/4 at the UW Indoor Preview.
2015: Another outstanding season as she made the podium at nationals for the first time, taking fourth at the NCAA Indoor meet, and was Pac-12 runner-up to her teammate Kristina Owsinski ... coped with a foot injury outdoors, missing a couple meets but jumping well when she was able ... cleared 13-8 1/4 at the Pac-12 Championships to finish second to Owsinski with teammate Elizabeth Quick taking third as UW swept the podium ... just missed a spot at NCAA Outdoors, losing a jump-off after tying for the 12th and final spot with a make of 13-7 ... raised her outdoor PR to 14-1 1/4 with a fourth-place tie at the Mt. SAC Relays, the No. 4 mark in school history ... cleared 13-5 1/4 in her outdoor season opener at the Baldy Castillo Invite, taking fourth ... qualified for NCAA Indoors for the second straight year, and cleared a new PR of 14-3 1/4 at the national meet to finish a career-best fourth and earn All-America First Team honors for the first time ... that clearance was 0.25-inches off the UW indoor school record ... cleared a then-PR of 14-2 at the Husky Classic to reach NCAAs ... finished third at the MPSF Championships with a clearance of 13-6 1/4 ... made 13-11 3/4 at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic ... opened the season with a win at the UW Indoor Preview, going 13-3 1/2.
2014: Won the Pac-12 pole vault title in her first year as a Dawg, and earned All-America Second Team honors both indoors and outdoors ... became UW’s first Pac-12 champ in the women’s vault since 2005, with a crucial final-attempt clearance of 14-0 1/2, a new career-best ... at the NCAA Outdoor meet in Eugene, she cleared 13-7 1/4 to tie for 10th-place overall and earn Second Team All-American ... repeatedly raised her own Puerto Rican National Record, setting the mark both indoors and outdoors ... currently sits third on the UW outdoor top-10 list ... reached her first NCAA Outdoors by advancing out of West Prelims without missing a jump, ultimately making 13-7 on one attempt ... opened her outdoor season with her first career 14-foot clearance, going 14-0 at the Trojan Invitational for the win ... second in the UW-WSU Dual on misses, clearing 13-1 3/4 ... also made 13-1 1/2 at the Mt. SAC Relays, placing fifth ... showed her athleticism with a third-place finish in the long jump in the UW-WSU Dual, going 18-11 1/4, the best mark on the team all year ... indoors, finished one spot off the podium at the NCAA Indoor Championships, taking ninth with a best clearance of 13-11 1/4 and earning All-America Second Team ... prior to nationals, had not competed in nearly a month due to a wrist injury ... jumped 13-11 1/4 in her first meet as a Husky, winning the UW Indoor Preview, and moving to No. 2 all-time indoors ... also was second at the New Mexico Classic indoors, clearing 13-8 1/4 ... had a big haul at the postseason team awards, winning Women's Team MVP, Women's Field Athlete of the Year, and Women's Newcomer of the Year.
2011-13 (At San Jose City College): Competed for Puerto Rico at the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, clearing 12-7 ½ in qualifying … won the 2013 California State Community College title in the pole vault, going 12-10 ¼ to set the state meet record and defend the title she won as a freshman in 2012 … was the national junior college leader in the pole vault with a best of 13-1 ¾.
High School and Personal: Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico … parents are Diana Cruz and Luis Planell … has one younger brother, Derek … spent her junior and senior high school years attending Los Altos High School in California, where she competed in the sprints, jumps, and pole vault … attended Antilles High School in Puerto Rico for her first two years … did not take up pole vault until her junior year in California … made the California state meet as a junior in the pole vault and on the 4x100m relay … also lettered two years in volleyball … competed for seven years in gymnastics, reaching level 9.
