BERKELEY, Calif. - The top-ranked Huskies avenged yesterday's loss to No. 4 Cal by pounding the Bears, 10-1, in five innings on Sunday. Washington improves to 38-4 overall and 2-1 in the Pac-10 and will take on Oregon State and Oregon next weekend. Cal falls to 38-9 and 2-3.

After UW's first four batters scored to open the game, consecutive home runs in the second inning by freshman Jaime Clark and senior Jennifer Spediacci put the Huskies up 9-0. Senior Rosie Leutzinger, who was 2-for-2 on the day, was hit by the first pitch of the game and moved to second on junior Kelly Hauxhurst's chopping single to short. Junior Kim DePaul and redshirt freshman Jenny Topping walked to score Leutzinger. Spediacci moved Hauxhurst and Topping up before a single by senior Melissa Downs, who was 2-for-3, brought both baserunners home.

In the second frame, Leutzinger singled and advanced to second on Hauxhurst's walk, and both moved up on a wild pitch before DePaul reached first on an error. Topping walked after a wild pitch brought Leutzinger home, and Clark's 13th homer of the year was a three-RBIer over the left field fences. Spediacci then sent the next pitch, off the third Cal pitcher of the game, to follow Clark's shot for her fourth dinger of the year.

The final run came in the third inning with two outs, as did all but one in the second. Leutzinger singled, Hauxhurst walked and a wild pitch put them on second and third. Topping knocked in Leutzinger on an error.

Spediacci (21-1) struck out three in four innings before sophomore Bridget Wilcox relieved her in the fifth.
