SEATTLE - Jay Garthwaite, Tyler Davidson, Ed Erickson and Ben Miller each hit home runs to lead the Washington baseball team to a 15-5 win over St. Martin's College in a non-conference game Wednesday night at Husky Ballpark.
The Huskies (19-21) took a quick lead in the first. With Marc Rittenhouse aboard on a single and one out, Garthwaite, a freshman from Kent, Wash., belted his seventh home run of the season over the scoreboard in left field, putting UW in front, 2-0.
After another UW run in the second, the Saints (13-20) rallied for a pair in the third. Joe Jeffries doubled home Mark DeLaurier with the first run and Adam Kim, who had singled, scored on sacrifice fly by Ben DeMond.
Washington extended its lead to 6-2 in the third when Davidson belted his fourth home run of the year, a three-run blast to center. Erickson made it 10-2 in the fourth when, with one run already in, he hit his seventh of the season out to right field, also a three-run shot.
Miller, who entered the game as a substitute left fielder in the sixth, capped a four-run eight inning with a two-run home run, the first hit of his Washington career.
Zack Daniels (3-1) allowed seven hits, but only two runs, over five innings to pick up the victory. Freshman Jacob Eisen (2-2) threw three innings in the loss.
Erickson finished the day 3-for-6 with a double and a home run. Catcher Jefferson Thiel had a pair of singles for the Huskies. DeLaurier and Jeffries each collected three hits to lead the St. Martin's offense.
The Huskies, after six straight non-conference games, return to league play this weekend when they take on Oregon State in a three-game series in Corvallis.
