SEATTLE - Freshman Alberto Concepcion belted two homers and drove in five runs to lead the 18th- ranked USC baseball team to a 6-1 win over Washington Friday night in a Pac-10 Conference game at Husky Ballpark.
Concepcion, a second-round pick in last June's draft, gave Trojan starter Rik Currier all the support he needed. The USC ace improved to 12-3 with the win, throwing seven and one- third innings and allowing only four hits and a run while fanning nine Huskies.
USC improved to 36-18 overall and 14-8 the Pac-10. The Huskies dropped their fifth straight conference game to fall to 26-28 overall and 7-15 in the league.
In the top of the second, USC's Anthony Lunetta and Rob Garibaldi both reached on infield singles to put runners at first and second before Concepcion belted his fifth home run of the season over the left field fence. Later in the inning, Josh Self singled, stole second and scored on a double by Josh Percell to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead.
Husky sophomore Todd Linden led off the bottom of the second by belting a ball over the center field wall for his sixth homer of the year. Concepcion added a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to pad the Trojans' lead. The first baseman added a single to go 3- for-4.
UW starter Matt Gardner (3-4) took the loss. He allowed six runs on 10 hits while walking one and fanning one over eight innings. Linden finished the day 3-for-3 with two stolen bases.
The Huskies and Trojans continue the series Saturday at 1:00 p.m. before closing out the regular season Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game.
