SEATTLE - After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, Washington poured in three second-half goals to defeat Utah 4-0 Sunday at Husky Soccer Field. The Dawgs move to 6-5-3 overall and 2-2-1 in Pac-12 competition with the win.
“Going into this weekend, it was important that we get wins, and important that we win at home,” head coach Lesle Gallimore said. “I have to commend the play of Sarah Martinez and Stine Schoening all weekend. Sarah has been able to overcome injury after injury and I thought she took the team and carried them on her back emotionally.”
Martinez set up freshman Jaclyn Softli in the 22nd minute, when Softli drove the first goal of the afternoon past a diving Hannah Turpen. The Dawgs held a 1-0 lead through intermission.
Senior midfielder Kate Deines opened the second-half scoring in the 55th minute when she connected on an assist from Lindsay Elston to provide a 2-0 a cushion for the Huskies. The Dawgs then converted insurance goals from Hilary Zevenbergen and Martinez.
Washington will host USC Friday, Oct. 14, at the Husky Soccer Field at 7 p.m.
