Last Non-Conference Tournament Upcoming
March 04, 2020 | Softball
SEATTLE - The #2 Washington Huskies finish their tournament schedule this weekend with one last non-conference tourney. Washington will play in the Silicon Valley Classic, hosted by Santa Clara and San Jose State. It'll be another five-game weekend, with Washington returning home after ready for Pac-12 play to begin.
This is the last weekend before Washington opens its home season with a big game against Team USA on March 12. Right after that, Washington begins Pac-12 play, hosting Utah for a three-game series beginning March 13.
The Dawgs went 4-1 last weekend, playing four teams now ranked in both major polls at the Judi Garman Classic. Washington sits at 19-2 overall after that weekend performance. One more win would give Washington 20 in non-conference play: the Huskies have won at least 20 games before Pac-12 play begins in every single season in program history, a streak currently sitting at 27 years.

YOU'RE A MEAN ONE, KELLEY LYNCH | |
Kelley Lynch set the Washington freshman record for most RBI in the first 20 games of a player's career with 25, breaking the record of 23 set by Jaime Clark in 2000. Lynch and Clark are the only Husky freshman ever with 20+ RBI in their first 20 games. She is currently tied for the Pac-12 lead in homers and second in both RBI and slugging percentage. Lynch has seven home runs through 20 games: only eight freshmen ever have hit more home runs in their entire freshman seasons. Only three Husky freshmen have had more extra-base hits before the beginning of Pac-12 play: Kylee Lahners (14 2012), Kristen Rivera (17, 2002), and Jaime Clark (28, 2000). Lynch has 12 right now with five more games to go before Pac-12 play starts. Lynch is also the first Husky with back-to-back games of 4+ RBI since Kirstyn Thomas in February 2018. |

Nine different Huskies are hitting over .400 with two outs, led by Taryn Atlee's .692 mark. The Huskies have nine home runs with two outs. With runners on base and two outs, Washington is hitting .448/.548/.690 as a team. |

BUILDING UP STEAM | |
In February in her career, Morganne Flores has hit .297, with 26 runs, 20 extra-base hits, and 41 RBI in her four seasons. In March games, however, Flores has come alive, hitting .381 with 35 runs, 24 extra-base hits, and 57 RBI despite playing just two games in March thus far this year. February has been Flores' worst month in every major offensive category in her career: her .323/.394/.613 mark entering this March is by far a career high at that point in the year. |
