Historic Husky Offense In 19-0 Win
March 06, 2020 | Softball
SANTA CLARA, Ca. – The #2 Washington Huskies had their highest-scoring game since 2016, beating the Santa Clara Broncos 19-0. Washington hit five home runs, their most since hitting a school-record nine in 2011, and scored multiple runs in every inning.
Sami Reynolds had the third five-hit game in school history, joining Angie Marzetta and Morgan Stuart in that regard. Reynolds was one of two Huskies with multi-homer games along with SilentRain Espinoza, who set new career highs in hits and RBI.
Washington had not had multiple players each hit multiple home runs in the same game since April 2, 2017, when Casey Stangel and Ali Aguilar did. This was just the fourth time in had ever happened: Stangel and Aguilar in 2017, Kimi Pohlman and Morgan Stuart in 2011, and Aimee Minor and Sarah Hyatt in 2005.
Reynolds, Espinoza, Taryn Atlee, and Baylee Klingler all did not record an out in the game, reaching all 18 times they came to the plate and combining for 11 runs and 14 RBI. With runners on base, Washington recorded 15 hits. Washington's starting lineup hit .633 as a group in the game.
Washington heads to San Jose for the rest of the weekend, playing UC Santa Barbara and San Jose State tomorrow, then Saint Mary's on Sunday.
