Husky Comeback Bid Falls One Run Short Sunday At USC
April 07, 2024 | Baseball
IRVINE, Calif. – AJ Guerrero drove in a career-high five runs but an early hole proved too much to overcome for the Huskies on Sunday as USC defeated Washington 6-5 at OC Great Park to complete the series sweep.
Spencer Dessart received the loss, going 2.0-plus innings in the start. Sam Boyle allowed one earned run over 4.0 frames of relief, while Reilly McAdams finished the game with a pair of scoreless frames.
The Trojans were all over the Huskies early, scoring two runs in the first, one in the second and three more in the third to take a commanding 6-1 lead early, with the lone UW run coming home on a Guerrero sacrifice fly.
But with one swing of the bat, Guerrero gave the Dawgs new life, launching a three-run home run well past the left field fence, drawing Washington within two at 6-4 after five.
Washington put the tying run on base in both the seventh and eighth, and Guerrero's RBI single in the ninth made it a one-run ballgame, but the Husky comeback attempt fell shy.
Washington returns home for midweek action, taking on Seattle U for the second time in as many weeks on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. PT. General admission tickets are just $2, while the game will be available for viewing on Washington Live Stream 2.
