Huskies Post Six More Wins To Close UW Invite
February 01, 2025 | Track & Field
SEATTLE β Three wins in the field and three on the track highlighted another breakneck day in the Dempsey, as the Husky track and field squad continues its early season assault on the recordbooks. Among the winners at the UW Invitational, Cole Lindhorst broke the Meet Record in the 800-meters, and Justin O'Toole lowered the Dempsey and School Records at 600-meters. And for those keeping track, the Huskies saw their 10th and 11th different runners break the four-minute mile barrier today.
Β
Big wins from field event veterans included Jami Schlueter's two-day PR performance in the heptathlon, where he scored 5,780 points to move into the top-five in the NCAA. Prestin Artis also climbed into NCAA qualifying position with a long jump season-best of 25-4 3/4, and Kaia Tupu-South grabbed the women's shot put victory with a best of 54-10.

Distance Events
Β
While the men's milers continue to wow with their parade of sub-four times, the women's mile may have stolen the show today. Only two Husky women had ever gone sub-4:30 coming into today, current junior and Husky record-holder Chloe Foerster (4:28.14) and Katie Flood back in 2012 (4:28.48). Today, two Huskies went sub-4:30 in the same race.
Β
Foerster repeated the feat in her first race since early December, going 4:28.90, and finishing right behind teammate Amina Maatoug, as the Duke transfer made a huge statement with a PR of 4:28.39. Foerster and Maatoug now rank 1-2 in Husky history and they will both sit in the top-10 in the NCAA when the dust settles on this weekend.
Β
Maatoug completed an impressive two-day double as she ran the 3k on Friday in 9:00.44. Foerster would go for an incredible one-day double of her own, as she came back a couple hours after the mile to run the 800-meters in an indoor PR of 2:03.32.
Β
The women's mile also saw excellent runs from Mia Cochran who had a second-straight 4:33 time, going 4:33.77 today, and Claire Yerby, who was just a fraction of a second off her PR in 4:36.34. Julia David-Smith took more than three seconds off her PR, going 4:36.66, Maggie Liebich had a big season-best 4:37.96, and Josephine Welin had a major PR of the day, cutting 10 seconds off her previous best with a time of 4:40.80.
Β
Another thrilling men's mile was taken by Leo Daschbach, who went sub-four for the fourth time in the past two years, clocking 3:56.63 today. Right alongside him was Acer Iverson, who dropped his PR down to 3:56.71 in second-place. But the new additions to the sub-four club were freshmen Nathan Neil and Martin Barco, both of whom blew past the 4-minute mark.
Β
Neil, the Montana product, is redshirting and competed unattached, but he ran the fastest mile ever by a Husky freshman today, going 3:57.12. Yet that was just a tenth of a second ahead of Barco, an Indiana native who is competing in uniform and thus will officially join the recordbooks with his first sub-four today in 3:57.12.
Β
Jamar Distel just missed a second-straight sub-four as he went 4:00.58, while a couple more Huskies racing unattached had PRs: James Crabtree ran 4:03.69 and Isaac Briggs went 4:03.80. Parker Mong also went 4:06.04 unattached.
Β
The men's 800-meter School Record nearly went down for the second meet in a row, but Kyle Reinheimer will hang on to it for at least another meet. Cole Lindhorst won the invite heat and set a new personal-best and broke the Meet Record, but he came up .02 seconds shy of Reinheimer's record. Lindhorst went 1:46.47 today while Ronan McMahon-Staggs ran 1:50.31.
Β
Though the 800m mark held up, the men's 600-meter School Record did change hands for the second-straight meet. After freshman Bodi Ligons set the record two weeks ago, senior Justin O'Toole stepped up with a time of 1:16.12, crossing side by side as has been their style all season with Reinheimer, who ran 1:16.16. O'Toole's time also broke the Dempsey Record by a slim .02 seconds. Jonathan Frazier also posted the No. 5 time in school history in 1:16.54.
Β
Multis Highlights
Β
Senior Jami Schlueter came into the second day of his heptathlon on a big PR pace, and he would take care of business today to take the win and hang up a score of 5,780 points which puts him in the top-10 in the NCAA. It also strengthens his No. 3 mark in school history.
Β
Schlueter opened with a 60m hurdles time of 8.27 seconds, best in the field. He then had a career-best pole vault make of 15-3. He closed out his great weekend with a 1,000-meter run of 2:52.29.
Β
Sprint Highlights
Β
Junior Anna Terrell went under 55-seconds indoors in the 400-meters for the first time, clocking a time of 54.73 to take third overall. That moves her up to No. 4 in school history. In the men's 400-meters, Bodi Ligons won his heat and took second overall in 47.81.
Β
In the 60-meter dash, senior Danielle Hunter advanced to the final and took third overall with a time of 7.55 seconds.
Β
Jumps Highlights
Β
The men's long jump was the only jump event today to feature Huskies, but Prestin Artis made sure all eyes were on the event. The 2024 Pac-12 Champion had his three best jumps of the season so far, culminating on his sixth and final attempt, as he went 25-4 3/4 to win by nearly two feet. Sophomore Roman Hutchinson had his best career indoor long jump, as he went 23-6 to take third, and junior Tim Luebbert was seventh at 23-1 1/4.
Throws Highlights
Β
In the women's shot put, junior Kaia Tupu-South dominated once again, winning by over six feet. The School Record-holder had a best today of 54-feet, 10-inches, on her fifth round throw. She currently sits 20th in the NCAA this season.
