
Washington Takes Down Kansas State in Season-Opener

CONWAY, S.C. – The Huskies began the Eddie Smith era in emphatic fashion on Friday, earning a 9-2 victory over Kansas State at Spring Brooks Stadium.
Max Banks was the star of the game, tossing six scoreless innings while only allowing two hits, two walks, and striking out nine batters. The senior threw a total of 81 pitches, 47 of which were strikes.
The Huskies offense dealt consistent damage, scoring in six different innings on the day. Casen Taggart drove in the first run of the season on a sacrifice fly, bring come Sam DeCarlo before Colton Bower scored on a wild pitch to put the Huskies up two in the first.
Washington continued to make plays and put runners on base, scoring one run each in the second and fourth innings. In the seventh, Trevor Kole broke the game open, launching a two-run shot to left field and give the Huskies a 7-0 advantage.
Malakhi Knight joined the party in the eighth, crushing a 386-foot solo shot to left-center field. Freshman Jackson Hotchkiss concluded the scoring in the ninth with a single up the middle to bring Trevor Kole home for the ninth Washington run of the day.
Josh Emanuels took over for Max Banks in the seventh inning and earned the save. He finished with three innings pitched, four hits allowed, and two runs scored.
Casen Taggart and Trevor Kole led the Huskies in RBIs, each tallying two in the season-opener. Kole finished the day 2-4 at the plate with one home run.
Three Huskies scored two runs each. Leadoff man Sam DeCarlo, catcher Colton Bower, and Kole all crossed home plate twice, accounting for six of Washington's nine runs.
Washington returns to action in Conway, S.C. tomorrow at 8 a.m. PT against Saint Joseph's.
